Another movie to hit the SM Cinema screens is from the visionary filmmakers James Cameron and Robert Rodriguez, Alita: Battle Angel, based from the manga, Gunnm by Yukito Kishiro.
The movie follows the life of Alita (Rosa Salazar), an abandoned cyborg found and repaired by Dr. Dyson Ido (Christoph Waltz), as she tries to look for her identity after she suffered from memory loss. However, when deadly forces running the Iron City started to hunt her, she discovers that she is not just an ordinary cyborg but a courageous warrior who can save the people that she’s grown to love.
Alita: Battle Angel becomes even bigger and better in IMAX theatres. Featuring up to 26% more picture, the IMAX moviegoers will surely enjoy the visual spectacle of the movie.

Lastly, an SM Cinema exclusive, Goku, Vegeta and the Dragon Ball family are back in the latest Dragon Ball film, Dragon Ball Super: Broly with the original story and screenplay written by the Dragon Ball creator himself, Akira Toriyama.
The anime film explores the history of Planet Vegeta and how after its destruction, three Saiyans survived. Goku and Vegeta became the protectors of Earth but another legendary Saiyan, Broly, appears and craves for revenge. Goku and Vegeta must face the third powerful Saiyan before he unleashes his destructive power and finish them all.

GLASS - M. Night Shyamalan's latest thriller is now at SM Cinema !

One of the most anticipated sequels of 2019, the superhero thriller Glass connects the stories of the 2000 film, Unbreakable, together with its main characters, David Dunn (Bruce Willis) and Elijah Price aka Mr. Glass (Samuel L. Jackson), and the 2016 film, Split, together with the mentally-ill, Kevin Wendell Crumb (James McAvoy) and his 24 personalities.

Picking up the ending of Split, David Dunn decided to catch Kevin Wendell Crumb under his superhuman persona, The Beast. As they were pitted against each other, Mr. Glass appears as the mastermind of all. Will the hero win against the villain this time?

BUMBLEBEE - Easily the best movie in the blockbuster franchise !

It's the year 1987, the yellow beetle B-127 is on the run to find refuge for his fellow autobots. He settles in a junk yard, and was found by a teenage girl named Charlie Watson. The two became friends and their adventure begins.

After the first five films from Michael Bay, the series has been associated with mindless plots, and explosions after explosions. Many critics have been bashing the series, while they continue to make money in the box office.

Now with new Director Travis Knight, and Writer Christina Hodson, it's back to basics with the auto-bots. The film tells us how they ended up on Earth, and how the yellow robot got his name Bumblebee. It captures that child-like wonder where you find an alien, and befriends him. It's like watching E.T. but with auto-bots parts. 

Finally we have a Transformers movie where there is good narrative, proper character  development, and mostly believable situations.
It's really a heartfelt story that has comedy, adventure, and lots of action. But this time, you know who amongst the auto-bots is fighting who; not just a bunch of robots in a free-for-all battlefield. 

Thanks to charming performances by the ensemble lead by Hailee Steinfeld (who I heard is part Filipino), and together with the supporting cast which includes her friend Memo (Jorge Lendeborg Jr.), Charlie's family, and agent Jack Burns (John Cena). This is easily the best film in the blockbuster franchise, as it saves the series from being just a crappy cash-cow. It also opens up to future sequels and origin stories of other characters in the Transformers films. Produced by Paramount Pictures. Distributed by United International Pictures Philippines.

MARY POPPINS RETURNS - Relive the magic the way Classic Hollywood Musicals were meant to be !

Set 25 years after the events of the first film, (although it's been 54 years since then) the Banks kids - Michael (Ben Whishow) and Jane (Emily Mortimer), are now grown-ups. With Michael recently widowed and left with three kids. They are about to lose their family home due to a bank loan left unpaid. Enter the magical nanny Mary Poppins going down from the sky.

Emily Blunt is marvelous as the title role which made Julie Andrews a star. She puts her own stamp to the character and makes it her own. Together with Lin-Manuel Miranda, both show their immense talents in singing and dancing on several production numbers.  I especially loved "A Cover Is Not A Book" with the dancing penguins.

There were several nods to the first film, like the colorful palettes used in animation, and the mix of 2D animation with live action which was also done in the original film. The Banks kids (Joel Dawson, Pixie Davies, & Natanael Saleh) are so adorable !

Colorful, magical, and nostalgic are words that came to my mind while watching this sequel. It's not meant to replace the original, but to relive the magic and introduce the magical nanny to a new generation. Watch out for the cameos of two beloved actors near the end.

It's important that you choose a theater with good sound systems - like Dolby Atmos, which is available in SM Aura Premier Cinemas and Vista Cinemas, EVIA Lifestyle Center to better appreciate the music and sound effects. A prequel movie set in 1987, B-127 also known as Bumblebee, is on the run after a civil war in their home planet, Cybertron. Bumblebee crashed in California and was found by Charlie Watson (Hailee Steinfeld) under a yellow Volkswagen Beetle disguise. Discovering that Bumblebee is not just an ordinary car, Charlie will help Bumblebee on his mission to protect Earth from Decepticons.
