SM Cinema takes Spider-Man from reel to real with Ultimate Spidey Fan Event

After millions of fans were left thrilled and gratified with the events of Avengers: Endgame, Spider-Man: Far From Home gives fans the satisfaction of seeing the Marvel cinematic universe post-Avengers from the point of view of Peter Parker as he takes on greater responsibilities.

To further heighten the anticipation for the release of Spider-Man: Far From Home, SM Cinema treated Spider-Man fans to a fun-filled weekend with the Ultimate Spidey Fan Event at SM Mall of Asia Atrium from June 28 to July 3.

The Ultimate Spidey Fan Event turns the SM Mall of Asia Atrium into every Spider-man fan’s dream with plucked-out-of-the-movie elements that will surely fuel excitement for the fans until the movie opens on July 3.

“We always give our moviegoers a different movie experience. We want to bring the reel into real life with activities that complete and complement what they see in the movies.” said Ruby Ann O. Reyes, SM Cinema Vice President for Corporate Marketing.
With activity stations where fans can score special prizes, upside-down rooms for IG-worthy photos, a Play Station booth where Spider-man on PS4 can be played for free and a Spider-man memorabilia exhibit, SM Cinema brings the Spider-man straight from the Marvel cinematic universe into real life.

Fans also feasted their eyes on a special Spider-Man art piece unveiled at the event by steampunk artist Ram Mallari.  Mario “Ram“ Mallari Jr. is one of the country’s most prolific and fast-rising sculptors, having started his experiments with iron, metal and reclaimed metals in 2011. He has earned a reputation as a great innovator in the field of "reclaimed sculpture" with his retro futuristic works with intricate metalwork techniques and has already received international acclaim, like being invited to be a guest artist and lecturer at the art workshop of the Singapore Science Museum.

Cosplayers from the Spider-Man groups Web Pinas, Spiderverse PH, Pinoy Spider-man Collectors and Option A Lego Group also participated in the event to show their excitement and support for the classic Marvel superhero as the next chapter of his story unfolds.

TOY STORY 4 - A Great companion to the Toy Story trilogy

One of the beloved animated film series which actually started computer animation had its ending in 2010. It left an emotional impact on us as we said goodbye to Woody, Buzz, and the rest of the gang. Nine years later, we are presented with a part 4. 
Is it necessary ? What's there to see with our favorite toys ? Turns out they're not done yet.

The film picks up where the last one ended. Woody and the bunch of toys have been turned-over to their new owner Bonnie. And Bonnie is about to enter school, but she's not really excited about it. While in orientation, she made a new toy out of a spork and some scrap materials. And we're introduced to Forky.

This film surprised me in a lot of ways. It's not just another episode of the secret life of toys. It's more like an-depth thought on what happens to discarded toys, and an expansion of their world. It's heart-warming, lots of funny moments, and the animation is top-notch.

This is really Woody's next adventure - who is no longer the group's leader, and not the favorite toy anymore. We also see what happened to Bo Peep, who was driven away in Toy Story 3.

Both kids and adults alike will be affected again emotionally
as we follow the narrative. But it also has elements of horror and comedy as we meet Gabby Gabby and her ventriloquist toys, Bunny and Ducky, and Duke Caboom (voiced by Keanu Reeves). 

This is a great companion to the trilogy of Toy Story. Will we see more of our favorite toys or this is the last of it ? Only time will tell. Directed by Josh Cooley (his feature film debut). Rated G. From Disney/Pixar.      

Taron Egerton gives an Oscar-worthy performance as Elton John in ROCKETMAN

ROCKETMAN is a musical biopic based on the life of legendary singer Elton John. From his childhood years in a troubled home to his early success as a musician. The film made use of the flamboyant singer's many hits to tell his story. There were fantasy moments in the narrative which made it more entertaining. And they didn't shy away from the singer's  addiction to sex, drugs, and alcohol. 

Taron Egerton is absolutely amazing in becoming Elton John. He was able to showcase the pop icon's emotions, talents, and sexuality. He did all the singing throughout the movie. He's definitely deserving of an Oscar. The supporting cast also gave great performances. The two boys as the young Eltons. Jamie Bell as Elton's writing partner Bernie Taupin. Richard Madden as Elton's manager and lover John Reid. And Bryce Dallas Howard as Elton's mom.

Director Dexter Fletcher, who finished BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY when Bryan Singer was fired, should also be commended for his work. He should at least get a nomination from the Golden Globe and Oscar awards.

There are still more songs of Elton John which were not in this film. Could this mean that there's a sequel coming up soon ? I really enjoyed watching this one, and I wanna see more. Taron Egerton should consider a musical career as well since he's a really great singer.  Rated R. From Paramount Pictures. Photos c/o United International Pictures.

The Lion King musical child actor JJ Dolor announced as new World Vision ambassador

Quezon City – Promising Filipino singing 12-year old stage-actor Julien Joshua “JJ” Millanes Dolor, was unveiled as World Vision’s newest and youngest ambassador for children in the Philippines.

Dolor captivated many-a-heart and followers with his highly acclaimed portrayal of “Young Simba” in the hit Disney musical classic The Lion King, produced by Cassel Group in association with Disney Theatrical Productions, which successfully toured in Asia including the Philippines and the gala premier in Singapore last 2018.

Inspired by World Vision’s work for fellow children, Dolor offers his passion and influence as a platform to inspire thousands of Filipino children through World Vision‘s work and advocacy.

“It is in my heart to help. A lot of kids nowadays belong to broken families. Through World Vision, I want to let them know how much Jesus loves them. I hope to be God’s instrument of change in their lives”, shared Dolor.

Signing the agreement with World Vision leaders as the new Celebrity Ambassador for Children last May 27, Dolor is hoped to fit the bill as a credible champion and voice for fellow children, especially those living in vulnerable and poor conditions in the country. World Vision, for more than 60 years, has been committed to uplift thousands of lives through its community-based programs touching on improving the children’s well being.

“We are excited to have JJ Dolor as our Ambassador for the children. We are grateful for his commitment to support us in various projects that will bless the children in our communities,” said Ms. Precious Basco, donor care manager of World Vision in the Philippines.

Born and raised in Davao, Dolor believes that this milestone happened for a reason. In a recent interview with a local daily paper, Dolor shared his thoughts, “Whatever talent that God gives you, use it to glorify Him. Thanks to my parents who always reminded me that it is never about me or my talent, but it is always about God's purposes for me”.

THE SECRET LIFE OF PETS 2 - Pets talk when we are not around

This is the sequel to the 2016 blockbuster which is of course about our pets who talk to each other when we leave them to go to work or school. The cute bunch of Gidget, Snowball, Max, Duke, etc. are back together with some new characters. 

This second flick is actually made up of three short stories. One where Max & family welcome a new baby, and they go to the countryside. Second is where Gidget is left behind, and asked by Max to take care of his favorite toy. And third, Snowball pretends to be a superhero and together with Daisy, tries to save a white tiger.

The voice actors all did a good job with their roles, but the stand-out is Harrison Ford as the dog Rooster. His persona is very much like the actor who voiced him - old, tall, grumpy, and smart. Patton Oswalt as Max is a welcome addition to the cast. He replaced Louis C.K. who has been shamed by the #MeToo movement. Kevin Hart as Snowball is again, hilarious and energetic. While newcomer Tiffany Haddish as Daisy is cute !

I think this is a better movie than the first one, although I enjoyed the original. There's more adventures here, more cuteness, and the animation is just perfect ! Every hair, movement, and surroundings of these pets looked real. Overall it's an enjoyable film for the whole family !

GODZILLA II : KING OF THE MONSTERS - It's Monster Mayhem !

This is the sequel to the 2014 Godzilla movie starring Arron Taylor-Johnson and Elizabeth Olsen. It's a remake that was meant to start Warner Bros.' monster franchise. But you don't really need to see that to enjoy this second part.

The cast is made up of A-List actors like Kyle Chandler, Vera Farmiga, Millie Bobbie Brown, Zhang Ziyi, and Ken Watanabe. In reality though, when you watch a giant monsters movie, you don't really care about the humans. You go watch the monsters fight other monsters. And there's plenty of that in here.

Featured are some of the more famous kaijus like Mothra, Rodan, King Ghidorah, etc.  But the mightiest of them all is of course, Godzilla. If you love watching giant monsters go head-to-head with each other, you'll definitely enjoy this one. And the action pieces are aplenty. It's Monster Mayhem all over !
