THOR LOVE AND THUNDER Getting Mixed Reactions

THOR LOVE AND THUNDER is a mix of comedy, love story, and action. It's also getting a mix reception amongst critics and audiences. After the first two Thor films having ho-hum reactions, Thor Ragnarok was a welcome change of pace as it invigorated the God of Thunder to new levels of excitement.

I personally enjoyed Thor Ragnarok as it gave us a fun side to Thor, thanks mainly to Taika Waititi's story-telling and direction. But on its follow-up film, they went all-out on the comedy and silliness, making the titular hero a clown. I do enjoy some humor here and there, especially on Marvel's heroes, but I think they should have a good balance on the serious and comedic parts of their films. For me the best interpretation of Thor was in Avengers : Infinity War.

Now I'm not saying that Thor Love And Thunder is a bad film. There are so many great elements in this one like the way they presented Lady Thor. When it was first announced that Natalie Portman was coming back to be the Mighty Thor, I wasn't really excited for it. I didn't like the idea of gender-bending the superheroes. Now that I've seen the film, I thought Natalie Portman did a great job. And she also had great chemistry with Chris Hemsworth as Thor, unlike in the first two films.

Christian Bale as Gorr the God-butcher is powerful and menacing. I never knew his character in the comics, so I was pleasantly surprised to see him as one of the best villains of the MCU. I just wished he had more screen time.

The Guardians of the Galaxy and Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) were also under-utilized as their characters appeared in only a few scenes.  I heard that the first cut of the film was four-hours long, so maybe most of their scenes were cut. Russell Crowe as Zeus was hilarious.

Despite the over-the-top humor in the film, Chris Hemsworth is every bit the heroic God of Thunder. Through the years, he has  delineated Thor in his many adventures fighting aliens, monsters, and a Titan. Chris Hemsworth is Thor !

Cinematography is stunning ! Costume designs are comics-accurate, and the song Sweet Child O' Mine by Guns N' Roses elicits memories from years passed.  Overall it's an enjoyable fourth solo outing for Thor. It's made for kids and kids at heart. If you enjoyed Thor Ragnarok, you'll also enjoy this one. Stay for the mid-credits scene and post-credits scene. I'm excited for what's coming up next for Thor !
