It takes a spy to hunt one. Cate Blanchett and Michael Fassbender star in new spy thriller “The Black Bag”

Opens in PH cinemas April 2

From director Steven Soderbergh comes the gripping spy drama, Black Bag, where legendary intelligence agents and married couple George(Michael Fassbender) and Kathryn(Cate Blanchett) Woodhouse balance their dangerous career with their marriage. When Kathryn is suspected of treachery, George must make a choice between his loyalty to his marriage or his country.

Director Soderbergh and screenwriter David Koepp have teamed up before, most recently with the 2024 thriller Presence. This time this unconventional spy drama takes people behind the lives of elite officers who work in the shadows. The idea for Black Bag came to Koepp as he was conducting interviews on intelligence officers for the blockbuster Mission: Impossible franchise. “All the spycraft stuff was very cool, but I learned more than I ever expected about the people,” he says. “One woman told me that her job made it impossible for her to sustain a relationship. A line in the movie was inspired by my conversations with her. ‘When you can lie about everything, how do you tell the truth about anything?’”

The idea of navigating this relationship called to director Soderbergh, and so the collaboration began. “It is an interesting context in which to explore the idea of betrayal,” he says. “The source of most conflict in the world is somebody feeling they have been betrayed or that a trust has been broken. In this situation, both main characters hold a kind of get-out-of-jail-free card because not only are they not obligated to share everything, in some cases they are forbidden to.”

Spy thrillers have always been appealing to writer Koepp, and with Black Bag, he’s made sure that the stakes are as high as it could get. “People are lying,” he says. “The stakes are astronomical. There’s nothing more fun to write than that. We have all the action, suspense and tension that audiences want from a spy story, plus characters that are compelling and layered. At times, Black Bag becomes more like Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? than Mission: Impossible. That’s a big part of what audiences will respond to. It brought me back to some of the great 1970s films like Klute and All the President’s Men, which were steeped in paranoia and deceit. The feeling of being lied to was very strong in that era and it’s pretty strong in this story as well.”

Black Bag also stars Marisa Abela, Tom Burke, Naomie Harris, Regé-Jean Page, and Pierce Brosnan. The film arrives in Philippine theaters on April 2. Follow Universal Pictures PH (FB), UniversalPicturesPH (IG), and UniversalPicsPH (TikTok) for the latest updates.

For #TeamGalaxy, they found a true AI Companion with the Galaxy S25 Series

Catriona Gray, Erwann Heussaff, Nico Bolzico, AC Bonifacio, Ninong Ry and other #TeamGalaxy members share their thoughts on the new Galaxy S25 series

#TeamGalaxy Erwan, Nico, Catriona, and AC find their true AI companion with the Galaxy S25 series

MANILA, Philippines – Samsung recently unpacked the future at the recent Galaxy AI Future Lab held in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig. The event highlighted the groundbreaking AI features of the Galaxy S25 series – Galaxy S25 Ultra, Galaxy S25+ and Galaxy S25 – with helpful personal insights from the members of #TeamGalaxy.

#TeamGalaxy were definitely excited about Samsung’s latest flagship phones, which offer unprecedented performance and a perfect camera experience.

#TeamGalaxy Ninong Ry, Ry, and Denisse share their favorite features on the Galaxy S25 series

Content creation like never before

Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray praises the upgrades of the Galaxy S25 series, especially with content creation. She says, “For me, the Galaxy S25 Series has powered up by combining improved specs in their software with incredible cameras. As a content creator and creative, having a device that’s able to capture every moment - may it be a super zoomed in crisp night shot at a concert, a high-res selfie or a macro product shot - and with the new Pro Visual Engine & Virtual aperture is incredible”.

Moreover, the new Audio Eraser feature resolves the biggest struggle of many content creators and even concert-goers. This unique AI feature identifies various sounds such as crowd, traffic, and natural noises and allows you to lower the volume or eliminate the unwanted ones. Dancer and actress AC Bonifacio agreed, “That is always my main problem when I go to concerts. I always want to record but I want to sing my heart out, and I wanna enjoy it with my friends, and Samsung got us that way to be able to do both and still be able to post stories.”

Talking about concerts, this series also boasts enhanced Nightography, which is also perfect for capturing moments even in the dark. Content creator Ry Velasco expressed in excitement, “Usually madilim sa mga concerts and minsan kailangan mo pa i-adjust yung exposure and magkakaroon ng texture [noise]. Then sa concerts, bawal yung big cameras, so feeling ko yun [Galaxy S25 series] yung pinaka-perfect phone for that.” (Usually, it’s dark in concerts and sometimes you still have to adjust the exposure which creates noise. Then in concerts big cameras are prohibited, so I feel like the Galaxy S25 series is the most perfect phone for that.)

The increased zoom range and the new 50MP ultra-wide camera are a huge help for people who are always on-the-go like internet personality and influencer Denisse Sy who shared, “The upgrade that struck me the most is the jump from a 12 megapixel to 50 megapixel. So as a user of the back camera, almost all of my content is always shot on that. So knowing that this is reliable, knowing that my 0.6 is always crisp, it's vibrant, it's clear, I know that I will always have the best footage. So I'm so excited for that one.”

Your true AI Companion for productivity

If you are a busy person and need a boost in productivity, Galaxy AI has your back! Agribusiness entrepreneur, co-founder of Bolzico Beef, Chingolo Restaurant, and Petchola pet food Nico Bolzico shared how the Galaxy S25 Series has helped him with his day-to-day activities via Gemini Live. “It allows you to move from app to app in a seamless way. If you are doing more than one thing, like the family, taking my kids to school, or if I have to go to Chingolo the restaurant, and I have to deal with some stuff in other projects, it’s very easy to have the Galaxy S25 Series because you can easily send commands,” he said.

The latest Now Brief feature assists you in getting your job done in the most efficient and productive way. Erwan Heussaff, James Beard Awardee and founder of The Fat Kid Inside Studios and co-founder Chingolo Restaurant with Nico Bolzico, shared, “Nowadays, the most time consuming aspect of my work is the planning and all the admin stuff. My least favorite thing to do, but probably the most important. So having the Now Brief which provides personalized daily briefings including weather updates, meeting reminders, and traffic conditions, stands out for its utility in daily planning. Just helps start my day”.

Meanwhile, Ninong Ry relates his insights on the Now Brief in terms of his content-making experience. He said, “Nand’yan din ‘yung sasabihin niya sa’yo kung uulan ba ngayon. Very essential ‘yun ah. Lalo na kung mayroon kaming outside shoot lalo ‘yung mga camping shoots namin. Para kung uulan, hindi nalang kami tutuloy. Mag-sustudio shoot nalang kami. So sobrang essential talaga niyon para sa amin”. (The feature says if it’s going to rain today. That’s very essential for our team particularly during outside or camping shoots since it informs us on the weather report for that day. So in case it rains, we proceed shooting at the studio).

Overall, the features of the Galaxy S25 Series are a big yes for the #TeamGalaxy, just like how it will be for all its users. From making better content with its videography and photography AI features to more saved time and more tasks accomplished with the Gemini Live and Now Brief, the Galaxy S25 Series is the true AI companion.

“A vampire exhumed for the modern audience.” See how Robert Eggers reimagines Nosferatu, starring Bill Skarsgård, Lily-Rose Depp, and Nicholas Hoult

In PH cinemas on Feb 26

A brand new Nosferatu emerges from acclaimed director Robert Eggers’ mind, and for him, it’s also a story close to his heart. “In many ways, my adaptation of Nosferatu is my most personal film. A story, not engendered by me, but one that I have lived with, within, and dreamed about since childhood. I often felt I had the same un-jaded creative spark of a first time filmmaker when finally making the film because of the years of thought I have put into it. I feel more fortunate than ever to have had the chance to make it with my trusted team of long-time collaborators,” he says.

Eggers recalls experiences of folk legend still alive in rural Europe, and for Nosferatu, his goal was to instill that old, mythic terror that has haunted mankind for generations. “The folk vampire is not a suave dinner-coat-wearing seducer, nor a sparkling, brooding hero. The folk vampire embodies disease, death, and sex in a base, brutal, and unforgiving way. This is the vampire I wanted to exhume for a modern audience,” he explains.

Watch the trailer here: https://tinyurl.com/yck67hvd

Nosferatu is a gothic tale of a young woman, Ellen (Lily-Rose Depp), haunted by visions of an ancient, terrifying vampire (Bill Skarsgård), who is infatuated with her, and bound her to him in his obsession. This causes untold horror in Ellen’s small German town of Wisburg.

Eggers’ fascination with Nosferatu was instilled early, as he fell in love with F.W. Murnau’s 1922 film, Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror as a child. As he grew older he started to write an adaptation of it  in high school, and has been looking for an opportunity for it to come to fruition. “I intended to return to Nosferatu again, but it never happened,” he says.

He finally finished his draft after finding success as a director, creating critically acclaimed films such as The Witch and The Lighthouse. He draws upon the original Nosferatu film, and that film’s influence, Bram Stoker’s novel Dracula, but shifts his focus on the beauty-and-the-beast tale of the vampire Nosferatu and Ellen. “As an evolution of the story, the thing that is most significant is that this is Ellen’s film. She is a victim not only of the vampire, but of nineteenth century society,” says Eggers.

Casting the perfect Ellen was vital to the film, and for Eggers, none embodied his vision as fully as Lily-Rose Depp. “Her audition was so strong. I was crying, the casting director was crying, the videographer was crying. It was clear she was going to be powerful as this character,” Eggers recalls.

Depp was completely enthralled by the script, and she was very eager to make the role hers. “There’s something about this script and this movie that feels very real, visceral, and human, which is interesting because we’re talking about demons, and ghosts, and this other realm. That’s what I think is the scariest part about the movie: just how real the nightmares are,” says Depp.

Watch the horror unfold as Nosferatu haunts Philippine theaters starting February 26. Follow Universal Pictures PH (FB), UniversalPicturesPH (IG), and UniversalPicsPH (TikTok) for the latest updates.

Indiewire’s critic David Ehrlich posted that “Bong Joon Ho is still very good at making movies.”

Total Film posted their initial reaction to the film, lauding it as “zany… a thrilling, unexpected sci-fi drama” and in their review said that the film is “funny and charming from the get-go, building out a fascinating sci-fi world from its central conceit that ends up speaking to powerful and timely concerns through humor, satire, and exhilarating genre elements. SlashFilm was very impressed with what they called another masterpiece from director Bong, saying, “With a sublime cast, ‘Mickey 17’ is a deeply heartfelt and uncomfortably funny musing on capitalism, colonization, and corruption. It’s a perfect film for our time, and Bong Joon-ho’s best English-language film yet.”

AYALA MALLS CINEMAS EXCLUSIVELY BRINGS PEDRO ALMODÓVAR’S AWARD-WINNING “THE ROOM NEXT DOOR” BACK TO PHILIPPINE CINEMAS STARTING FEBRUARY 19

Ayala Malls Cinemas’ exclusive offering of award-winning films continues with acclaimed director Pedro Almodóvar’s “The Room Next Door,” which will open exclusively in select branches on February 19. Starring Tilda Swinton and Julianne Moore, the film won the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival last year, and was nominated for several awards at the prestigious Goya Awards, winning Best Adapted Screenplay for Almodóvar, who wrote the script based on the novel “What Are You Going Through” by Sigrid Nunez.

“‘The Room Next Door’ talks about the rekindling of an old friendship, in an intimate, extreme situation,” says Almodóvar of his first English-language feature film. “The Room Next Door,” which was part of the QCinema lineup in November, will be back on Philippine screens starting February 19, this time exclusively in select Ayala Malls Cinemas, specifically Glorietta, Greenbelt, Trinoma, Marquee, Abreeza, Centrio, Fairview Terraces, BHS, Legazpi, UPTC, Vertis North, Cloverleaf, Feliz, Circuit, Capitol Central, Manila Bay and Central Bloc.

In the film, Ingrid (Moore) and Martha (Swinton) were close friends in their youth, when they worked together at the same magazine. Ingrid went on to become an autofiction novelist while Martha became a war reporter, and they were separated by the circumstances of life. After years of being out of touch, they meet again in an extreme but strangely sweet situation.

Almodóvar speaks highly of Moore and Swinton, both of whom are previous Academy Award winners, much like the director himself. “People talk a lot in my films, the word is as essential as in the theater,” he says. “Among all the narrative elements [all of them important and in which I am unreservedly involved], it is the actors, the actresses, who really tell the story. In ‘The Room Next Door’ Tilda Swinton and Julianne Moore take all the weight of the film on their shoulders. They are the spectacle.”

“Quiet yet moving, ‘The Room Next Door’ is a heartfelt meditation on friendship, grief, and death,” said RogerEbert.com in their review.

Total Film praised Almodóvar’s choice of color palette for his latest feature, as well as Swinton and Moore’s performances. “‘The Room Next Door’ is filled with color [pistachio sun loungers, pink snowflakes, rust-coloured leaves and, of course, pops of signature red], not to mention jolts of passion, rage, ambition, lust, hurt, and intrigue,” they wrote. “Deftly navigating a script that takes in poetry, John Huston films, and environmental concerns, Moore and Swinton excel as accomplished women who worry about their failings.”

Ayala Malls Cinemas has become a premier destination for cinephiles for whom critically acclaimed films are a must-watch, thanks to the Cinemas’ ever dependable lineup of exclusive awards season favorites throughout the year.

Aside from the films themselves, the movie-watching experience in Ayala Malls Cinemas is made unforgettable thanks to the premium features they offer: plush seating and generous legroom, cutting-edge laser projections for sharper images, and top-notch Dolby Sound and Dolby Atmos technologies to enhance audio depth – moviegoers are in for an exceptional cinematic experience.

Cinema patrons can top off their day at the cinema by enjoying a variety of delicious treats from The Movie Snackbar, which include the movie must-have popcorn, hotdog sandwiches, yummy burgers and ice-cold beverages.

Before “The Room Next Door,” other award-winning films exclusively shown at Ayala Malls Cinemas recently include “Anora” and “A Real Pain.” Also coming soon is “The Brutalist.”

Don’t miss “The Room Next Door,” which will be back in Philippine cinemas when it opens exclusively at Ayala Malls Cinemas on February 19. Book your tickets now by visiting www.sureseats.com or any of the participating cinemas. Visit the Ayala Malls Cinemas FB and IG pages for updates!

Samsung unpacks the Galaxy S25 series at the Galaxy AI Future Lab in BGC

Check out what Catriona loved about the Galaxy S25 series

Taking a step into the future with Galaxy AI, Samsung recently held the Galaxy AI Future Lab, a week-long event held at the BGC Amphitheater that showcased the future of work, travel, and concerts enhanced with Galaxy AI. The event allowed guests to experience the Galaxy S25 series firsthand, including Miss Universe 2018 and #TeamGalaxy member, Catriona Gray.

The global advocate and powerhouse content creator took the stage at the culminating night of the event and shared her experience with the incredible Galaxy S25 series. Get the rundown on what Catriona loves about her new Galaxy device!

The Ultimate AI Assistant & Staying Organized Across Apps

For Catriona, her Galaxy S25 is the ultimate tool to help her stay on top of everything.

“Honestly, I don’t know how I managed before the Galaxy S25. The Galaxy AI is like having a personal assistant, an ultimate AI companion in my pocket. I’ve seen how it’s adapting to my schedule and routines, so I don’t have to think about the little things. It just makes life easier!” she exclaimed.

This is made possible through one of the newest features of the Galaxy S25 series - the Now Brief, which automatically compiles your most important notifications, reminders, schedules, and to-do lists into one easily accessible place. Now Brief is an intelligent summary delivered to empower users with insights for living.

The Galaxy S25 series also offers the Seamless Actions Across Apps feature is pretty handy, which can help users perform complex tasks, using cross-apps (native & 3rd party app) and multi device actions. User can give multiple commands all at the same time and the Galaxy S25’s human-like agent understands natural conversations and will proceed multiple actions at once. This will help them accomplish tasks much faster and easier – without jumping from one app to another.

“If I’m traveling, it’s even more helpful. I can be on a shoot and get a quick notification about an event or meeting, and in just a few taps, I can save it to my calendar, add it to my notes or even send the details of the location to my team! Very seamless indeed!” she said.

Effortless Content Creation with a Perfect Camera Experience

As a content creator and creative, having a device that’s able to capture every moment - may it be a super zoomed in crisp night shot at a concert, a high-res selfie or a macro product shot – is essential for Catriona. And when it comes to content creation, the S25 series definitely delivers with an upgraded 50MP ultrawide camera, and a slew of new Galaxy AI features.

“The 200MP camera is so sharp that it captures every little detail, even when I’m just snapping a photo of something random, like the view from my hotel window. And the Nightography feature? Total game-changer. I love going to evening events or shooting videos at night, and the phone just adapts. I get clear, crisp pictures without needing extra lighting or anything,” shared Catriona.

Galaxy S25 series also actively utilizes AI solutions to take portrait photography and Nightography videos to the next level. In particular, users will be able to take more sophisticated portraits, which are the most popular photos taken by users. The camera accurately identifies the subject it illuminates and analyzes the surrounding lighting environment in real time and even accurately expresses skin tones that are prone to distortion when there are multiple light sources.

The Definitive Concert Phone gets better with Audio Eraser

The Galaxy S25 series has long been a favorite for concert goers but it just got better with a new feature that would allow users to remove noise so they can enjoy their favorite performances in all its glory – the Audio Eraser. This new on-device feature uses AI to recognize common noises like crowds and wind and eliminates or tones down that sound in videos, removing unwanted noise in the background, “video bombers” or even super strong winds if the video was taken outdoors.

“I can’t wait to use this feature for my travels, or any content creation process. This might be one of the major reasons I can convince my family, friends and fans to switch or upgrade to the Galaxy S25!” Catriona exclaimed.

Events host Katz Salao, Samsung Electronics Philippines Corporation (SEPCO) Product Marketing Manager for Flagship Isabelle Kim, Head of Product Marketing for Mobile Experience Jun Guevara, #TeamGalaxy Catriona Gray, Mobile Experience Business Director Daniel Choi, Product Marketing Manager for Flagship MJ Marfori, Head of Corporate Marketing Yna Quimson, and Marketing Communications Manager for Flagship Lyza Samartino with their Galaxy S25 Ultra.

ENGENEs even got the chance to get the limited edition ENHYPEN pre-order bundle available exclusively at samsung.com and get ready for their upcoming 'WALK THE LINE IN BULACAN’ concert.

About Jurassic World Rebirth

A new era is born. This summer, three years after the Jurassic World trilogy concluded with each film surpassing $1 billion at the global box office, the enduring Jurassic series evolves in an ingenious new direction with Jurassic World Rebirth.

Anchored by iconic action superstar Scarlett Johansson, Emmy and SAG nominee Jonathan Bailey and two-time Oscar® winner Mahershala Ali, this action-packed new chapter sees an extraction team race to the most dangerous place on Earth, an island research facility for the original Jurassic Park, inhabited by the worst of the worst that were left behind. Also starring acclaimed international stars Rupert Friend and Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, the film is directed by dynamic visualist Gareth Edwards (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) from a script by original Jurassic Park screenwriter David Koepp.

Five years after the events of Jurassic World Dominion, the planet’s ecology has proven largely inhospitable to dinosaurs. Those remaining exist in isolated equatorial environments with climates resembling the one in which they once thrived. The three most colossal creatures across land, sea and air within that tropical biosphere hold, in their DNA, the key to a drug that will bring miraculous life-saving benefits to humankind.

Jurassic World Rebirth is directed by BAFTA winner Edwards from a script by Koepp (War of the Worlds), based on characters created by Michael Crichton. The film is produced by Oscar® nominee Frank Marshall and Patrick Crowley, both longtime Jurassic franchise producers and of last summer’s blockbuster, Twisters. The film is executive produced by Steven Spielberg, Denis L. Stewart and Jim Spencer.
