The Communications Olympiad provides a learning journey with practical exercises through an Olympiad-level competition for the participants to advance their skills as the next communications professionals.

Each team participated in the Qualifier Phase of the competition, where they formed teams of five and created position papers in line with the theme “Rewrite Climate Change.” The qualifiers will be part of The Communications Olympiad Training Camp where contenders will undergo rigorous training to fully equip them in the competition.

The first session, "Best Practices in Communications," is designed to provide participants with essential skills to develop, implement, and manage successful communications campaigns, covering Elements of a Communications Plan, Writing 101 for Business Communications, CSR Communications, and a discussion on the IABC Rubrics.

The second session, “The Role of Communication in Environment Conservation,” aims to identify the pivotal contributions of communications in amplifying environmental conservation efforts. The session will cover Climate Change and Other Environment Concerns, Sustainability Practices Among Businesses, Environmental Communication, and Environmental Education.

After going through the Training Camp, the teams will take part in a 24-hour hackathon challenge, where each team will be tasked to create a communications plan based on an actual case.

THE AMATEUR - A familiar revenge movie with an unconventional protagonist

By: Edgar Allan E. Yu

"The Amateur" presents a gripping narrative centered around a CIA computer analyst whose world is shattered by the tragic loss of his wife in a terrorist attack in London. This film dives deep into the raw emotions of grief and vengeance, as our protagonist takes matters into his own hands when his superiors refuse to act. While it follows a familiar revenge movie framework, what sets it apart is its unconventional lead—Oscar winner Rami Malek. His portrayal of an ordinary man thrust into extraordinary circumstances is both relatable and compelling; he embodies the brilliance of a mind over the brawn typically expected in action heroes.

The supporting cast, featuring talents like Rachel Brosnahan and Jon Bernthal, brings promise but unfortunately falls short of their potential due to limited screen time. Even Lawrence Fishburne, who has more presence in the film, feels underutilized despite his formidable acting skills. However, don't let that deter you—the story remains engaging throughout. The stakes feel real as danger looms at every turn, and the action sequences are executed with precision that keeps you at the edge of your seat.

Overall, "The Amateur" stands out as an intriguing spy thriller that combines emotional depth with thrilling action. It’s worth watching for those who appreciate stories where intellect triumphs over mere physicality—a refreshing take on a well-trodden genre that leaves you eager for more from this promising narrative landscape.

Ayala Malls Cinemas keeps you at the edge of your seat with the thrilling spy drama “Black Bag,” starring Cate Blanchett and Michael Fassbender

Exclusively in Ayala Malls Cinemas on May 7

Ayala Malls Cinemas continues to set the standard as the premier destination for movie enthusiasts, offering an unmatched cinematic experience tailored for true film lovers. As the go-to spot for exclusive releases, Ayala Malls Cinemas proudly presents Black Bag—the latest edge-of-your-seat spy thriller from acclaimed director Steven Soderbergh. Featuring a stellar cast including Michael Fassbender, Cate Blanchett, Marisa Abela, Tom Burke, Naomie Harris, Regé-Jean Page, and Pierce Brosnan, this gripping film is best experienced where luxury meets entertainment—only at Ayala Malls Cinemas.

Black Bag revolves around George Woodhouse (Michael Fassbender), a top British intelligence officer working for the National Cybersecurity Center (NCSC) as he faces the ultimate test of loyalty when he investigates a critical security breach. His devotion to his country is only matched by his loyalty to his wife, fellow agent Kathryn St. Jean (Cate Blanchett). When the agency is alerted to a mole within their ranks, Woodhouse is given a list of five suspects to investigate, a list that includes his beloved wife.

Watch the trailer (FB): https://tinyurl.com/bdz5nrfw

As the heart of the film is centered around the relationship between George and Kathryn, writer David Koepp and director Steven Soderbergh wanted actors that will deliver authenticity, and that’s where Fassbender and Blanchett come in. “Both Michael and Cate bring exceptional acting skill, which is easy to say, but difficult to find,” Koepp says. “They both have a powerful understanding of screen acting and how to do more with less. George’s job is to withhold, to be steely. Michael’s performance is a masterpiece of minimalism. Cate’s role is much more expressive, but you often wonder what’s really going on behind her eyes.”

This is not the first time Fassbender worked on a Soderbergh film, having worked together in 2011’s Haywire, and he was eager to work with the director again with such a compelling script. “I read the script and said I’m in. We talked about details like what kind of spectacles George would wear and that he might  have a stainless-steel kitchen. George is a very traditional, old-school character and quite an obsessive guy, so the small things were very important,” he explains.

Cate Blanchett has even more of a relationship with the director, having worked with him for three films now. It was an automatic yes for her, even without going through the script. I just said, ‘Who am I playing?’ It was written by David and directed by Steven. That’s all I needed to know. Steven’s got amazing panache and range as a filmmaker. He doesn’t stay in the same lane. He understands the outsider’s perspective these characters have, the way they can move almost panther-like through the world,” she says.

Experience cinema like never before at Ayala Malls Cinemas—your go-to destination for world-class movie entertainment. Renowned for showcasing a dynamic lineup of internationally acclaimed films from celebrated directors and stars across all genres, Ayala Malls Cinemas offers more than just a movie—it delivers a full cinematic escape. Enjoy state-of-the-art visuals and immersive audio with Dolby ATMOS technology, all while relaxing in plush, comfortable seating designed for maximum enjoyment. Elevate your movie night with a visit to The Movie Snackbar, where you can indulge in a variety of delicious treats, from classic popcorn to hearty burgers and refreshing drinks. Creator Dean Deblois takes audiences for a ride back into the Isle of Berk in the new “How to Train Your Dragon” featurette

In PH cinemas June 11

Writer-director Dean Deblois is back at the helm in the live-action adaptation of How to Train Your Dragon, and for him it feels like coming back home. “These characters and this universe have stayed with me, and now we can bring them back with such authenticity and conviction that, when audiences enter this world, they’ll never want to leave,” he says.

Watch the featurette: https://youtu.be/k9wR8dhE7Qw

How to Train Your Dragon takes audiences to the Isle of Berk, where there’s been a generational feud between Vikings and dragons. Hiccup (Mason Thames) unexpectedly finds a friend in the Night Fury Toothless, breaking centuries of animosity, together they try to forge bonds strong enough to face a looming threat that endangers the isle.

The original animated film How to Train Your Dragon was an adaptation of Cressida Cowell’s best-selling book series of the same. Having been the steward of the franchise for the animated trilogy, DeBlois recalls what drew him to the story of Hiccup and Toothless. “I’ve always been drawn to stories that weave meaning into moments of wonder,” DeBlois says. “How to Train Your Dragon is about finding the courage to see beyond fear and convention. Hiccup’s journey shows us the power of questioning what we’re taught and embracing the possibility of something greater. He’s mocked, ridiculed and misunderstood, but he stays true to his convictions—and that’s what makes his story so universal.”

With live-action offering new avenues for creativity, the filmmakers felt that expanding Berk was a key goal for How to Train Your Dragon. “We wanted Berk to feel like a true crossroads of Viking culture,” Emmy-winning producer Adam Siegel says. “Through our research and Dean’s work on the animated franchise, we discovered that dragon myths exist in cultures all over the world. That gave us the chance to bring in influences from many traditions and make this world feel even more diverse and interconnected.”

Deblois feels like this shift in perspective enriched the story of the film. ““We imagined the Vikings of Berk traveling far and wide, encountering warriors and mythologies from other lands,” DeBlois says. “By bringing these traditions together, we created a world where the threat of dragons unites people from vastly different backgrounds. It’s a story of finding common ground in the face of fear.”

Berk awaits as “How to Train Your Dragon” opens in Philippine cinemas on June 11.

About How to Train Your Dragon:

Cast: Mason Thames, Gerard Butler, Nico Parker, Nick Frost, Julian Dennison, Gabriel Howell, Bronwyn James, Harry Trevaldwyn, Ruth Codd, Peter Serafinowicz, Murray McArthur

Written and directed by: Dean DeBlois

Producers: Marc Platt, Dean DeBlois, Adam Siegel

From three-time Oscar® nominee and Golden Globe winner Dean DeBlois, the creative visionary behind DreamWorks Animation’s acclaimed How to Train Your Dragon trilogy, comes a stunning live-action reimagining of the film that launched the beloved franchise.

On the rugged isle of Berk, where Vikings and dragons have been bitter enemies for generations, Hiccup (Mason Thames; The Black Phone, For All Mankind) stands apart. The inventive yet overlooked son of Chief Stoick the Vast (Gerard Butler, reprising his voice role from the animated franchise), Hiccup defies centuries of tradition when he befriends Toothless, a feared Night Fury dragon. Their unlikely bond reveals the true nature of dragons, challenging the very foundations of Viking society.

Inspired by Cressida Cowell’s New York Times bestselling book series, DreamWorks Animation’s How to Train Your Dragon franchise has captivated global audiences, earning four Academy Award® nominations and grossing more than $1.6 billion at the global box-office. Now, through cutting-edge visual effects, DeBlois transforms his beloved animated saga into a breathtaking live-action spectacle, bringing the epic adventures of Hiccup and Toothless to life with jaw-dropping realism as they discover the true meaning of friendship, courage and destiny.

Watch the cast of Until Dawn experience a real-life timeloop of scare pranks in Wondercon 2025

(The cast of Until Dawn making their way to WonderCon | L-R, top:Ella Rubin, Belmont Cameli, Michael Cimino | bottom: Odessa A’zion, Ji-young Yoo)

The cast of Until Dawn were in for a surprise as they headed to Wondercon for the Until Dawn press tour, only for it to be their own terrifying timeloop of scare pranks.

Ella Rubin, Michael Cimino, Odessa A’zion, Ji-young Yoo, Belmont Cameli joined Wondercon for a day of meet-and-greets and interviews, along with producer-director David F. Sandberg, producer-writer Gary Dauberman, and producer Carter Swan. What they didn’t know was that throughout their day, jumpscares were waiting for them in the most unexpected places.

Watch the prank video: https://youtu.be/JQX4ZPCgAqQ

The cast came into filming Until Dawn with 100% energy, excited for the horrors that awaited them. “Until Dawn gave me the opportunity to keep pushing, rather than pulling back. That was exciting and kind of delicious. There’s no way to rein it in when your character is constantly in a life and death situation, and you’re literally being chased by a monster with an axe!” Ella Rubin, who plays Clover, says.

Michael Cimino, who plays Clover’s ex-boyfriend Max, was fascinated about the changes their characters go through as the story progresses. “I love that every character, after each night, is changing a bit and revealing more of themselves. Every character is on an admittedly scary path of self-discovery,” he says.

As a tight-knit circle of friends, there are different roles that the characters fit into in a group dynamic. For Ji-young Yoo, she thinks of her character Megan “spiritual core of the group,” she says. “Megan is a strong believer in the supernatural. She thinks that the trip is going to help them all lock into some kind of energy from the missing Melanie. That will help them all close out this chapter in their lives.”“

Somehow the odd one out, Belmont Cameli’s character Abe, feels just a little distant from the group. “Abe is definitely on the group’s periphery,” says Cameli, who takes on the role. “He’s also a bit of a know-it-all and smartass. I also enjoyed that Abe is on the outside of this inner circle of friends and playing that dynamic with the rest of the cast.”

Even through the rough patches that come with the worst night of their lives, their friendship is held strong by Clover. “Clover is the anchor of the movie. She’s the reason the friends come together and undertake this journey. They rally around Clover and want to give her closure to the disappearance of her sister, in the hopes of finding their friend, again,” says writer Dauberman.

Stay tuned to see if this group of friends survive Until Dawn, in Philippine cinemas on Friday, April 25.

Accelerating Empowerment: TP holds Women’s Summit 2025

 PRESS RELEASE

Advocacy champions, academe experts and allies on stage to accelerate action and amplify TP’s continued efforts to create an empowering environment for women. Following the engaging lecturettes, Patricia Sybil “Auie” Auerelio, campaign and advocacy officer of the UP Diliman Gender Office and Dr. Estesa “Teeza” Xaris Que-Legaspi, director of the Lasallian Center for Inclusion, Diversity, and Well-being, receive their certificate of appreciation from senior leadership of TP in the Philippines: Jeffrey Johnson (extreme left), chief people officer; Toni Tompar (third from left), executive vice president of Operations; Fides Ricasa (center), executive vice president of Business Development; and Glazel Velasco (extreme right), director of operations and TP Women chair. The event was hosted by Shawntel Nicole Nieto (second from left), food and sustainability advocate and Ten Outstanding Young Men and Women 2022 awardee.

Quezon City, Philippines – Global digital business services leader, TP in the Philippines capped its celebration of International Women’s Month with the gathering of over 200 women leaders and advocates at the TP Women Summit 2025 held recently at the Crowne Plaza, Ortigas Center.

With the theme “Translating the Women Agenda into Action: Address Women's Rights, Invest in Women's Growth, and Accelerate Our Progress,” the summit served as a multisectoral gathering of women leaders, champions, advocates, and allies. The event further emphasized TP’s dedication to synergistic collaborations that advance the shared task of creating empowering environments for women within and beyond the workplace.

Hosted by food and sustainability advocate and Ten Outstanding Young Men and Women 2022 awardee Shawntel Nicole Nieto, the TP Women Summit featured expert advocates from the University of the Philippines academic Patricia Sybil “Auie” Aurelio and Director of Lasallian Center for Inclusion, Diversity, and Well-being Estesa “Teeza” Xaris Que-Legaspi, who shared insights on breaking barriers, strengthening inclusion, and translating commitments to gender equality and women empowerment into tangible outcomes in the workplace and beyond.

“At TP, we firmly believe in the transformative power of collaboration and innovation. Through this summit, we aim to provide interactive opportunities for our multi-sectoral stakeholders to address pivotal women-rights issues both in the workplace and within our communities,” said Fides Amor Ricasa, TP in the Philippines Executive Vice President of Business Development, in her welcome address.

Another highlight of the event featured key leaders and TP Women executive sponsors of TP in the Philippines in a panel discussion. Chief People Officer Jeffrey Johnson, Executive Vice President Toni Tompar, and Vice President of Operations Nina Kristine Abad shared expert insights and enjoined advocates and allies to engage in transformative action to further accelerate greater gender equality in the workplace.

“We need to make sure that all avenues are available for women to advance into leadership roles. In addition to our collective efforts to educate more people, we’re also advancing gender pay equity. And I’m glad to share that at TP in the Philippines, we have achieved gender-pay equity in all levels of our organization,” Johnson said.

When asked how TP Women overcomes challenges in promoting gender equality, Tompar shared that apart from implementing programs and policies, women in senior leadership as well as members of the executive leadership are, in fact, staunch champions and advocates of inclusivity and diversity. “Despite global disruptions, TP remains a people-first company. We keep our ears on the ground and listen to the needs of our people, whose dedication and talents are key in delivering value and driving meaningful change for women and the rest of our people across the communities where we operate,” Tompar added.

TP’s successful efforts in advancing gender equity in the workplace, especially for women and people of diverse sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, are built on three strategic pillars: 1) Leveraging data by measuring the organization against critical benchmarks on which the development of inclusion and diversity programs, policies, and activities is based; 2) Leadership by example with the members of senior and executive leadership acting as proactive champions; and 3) Community-building that directly engages TP’s frontline employees and leaders toward addressing women’s rights, investing in their personal and professional growth, and accelerating progress that uplifts women and the society at large.

The company’s initiatives and operations are also complemented by its extensive Emotional Intelligence (EI) program, emphasizing the critical task of enhancing uniquely human qualities and capabilities. “Emotional intelligence is an important driver in ensuring the success of attaining gender equality at TP, especially in the age of artificial intelligence,” shared Abad.

In recognition of its ardent commitment to ensure women are represented and empowered across its workplaces, TP in the Philippines was given the 1st Runner-Up award for Gender-Inclusive Workplace by the United Nations Women Empowerment Principles (UNWEPs) in  2024. The company was the lone member of the IT-BPM industry to be honored under the Gender-Inclusive Workplace category.
