A family of five moves very quietly in a grocery store, trying to salvage any supplies left. They communicate thru sign language only. The youngest child found a toy airplane. But the dad took it and removed the batteries. When the parents stepped out of the store, the eldest daughter gave the airplane back to the youngest, and smiled. On their way back home, while the family walked barefoot on a bridge, what followed was the first tragic scene in the movie.
This is a unique horror movie as it will make you want to be silent, even though you really want to scream your lungs out. There is very minimal dialogue in the movie. The monsters are alien predators that are blind but have strong sense of hearing. If they hear you, they hunt you !
The husband and wife team of John Krasinski and Emily Blunt star as the parents of a suburban family trying to survive by keeping silent. They are just amazing here. With Blunt as a pregnant wife who tries to keep her family together, while Krasinski is the husband who will do everything for his wife and kids. Krasinski is not only an actor, but also a co-writer and director of the movie.
This is one of the best horror movies I've seen in years. There is good character development, nice build-up of suspense, and it will make you care for the whole family. It is also well-acted by the whole cast. Millicent Simmonds who is deaf-mute in real life plays the eldest daughter while Noah Jupe is the son who tries to be as brave as his father. Co-written by Bryan Woods, Scott Beck and John Krasinski. From Paramount Pictures. Rated PG-13.
