From Reel to Real: Witness Movies Come Alive in SM Cinema Blockbuster Weekend!
The last month of the year is approaching but SM Cinema is still unstoppable in bringing fun and excitement to movie goers as they launch the SM Cinema Blockbuster Weekend at SM Mall of Asia from November 30 to December 2.

As part of the ongoing Reel to Real Campaign of SM Cinema, movies such as Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-it-Ralph 2, Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse and Pokemon: The Power of Us will be featured through the three-day interactive exhibit, giving everyone the opportunity to experience the featured movies.
As the public enter the event area, they can check Wreck-It-Ralph inspired exhibits such as Vanellope’s Sugar Rush World, Mr. Litwak’s Arcade and Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-it-Ralph 2 360o Photobooth. They can also experience the world of Spider-Man at the Upside Down Room and become a real-life Pokemon trainer through the mini-Pokemon Center.
Wreck-It-Ralph fans are welcome on November 30, and they can join a special quiz night that will focus on Wreck-It-Ralph and Vanellope’s world. Participants will have a chance to win exclusive prizes and merchandise.
Spider-Man geeks will surely enjoy the activities on December 1, as SM Cinema will have a demonstration for the hit Playstation 4 game, Marvel’s Spider-Man. As the Spiderverse collide, watch out for several Spider-Man cosplayers in the area. And as a treat for everyone, Columbia Pictures will show an exclusive clip for the upcoming Spider-Man film, Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse.

RALPH BREAKS THE INTERNET

Former bad guy Wreck-It Ralph gets out of the arcade games, and goes into the internet. Together with his bestfriend Vanellope von Schweetz, he explores the vast richness of the world wide web to try to find a replacement part for the Sugar Rush game so that it won't be switched off forever. Along the way, they meet several characters, make new friends, and find out what they really need in life.

I really like how Disney depicted the internet as some sort of sci-fi city with several skyscrapers each having their corporate names like eBay, Facebook, Google, etc. The city is filled with several avatars which are actually the citizens of the internet - the netizens.

Not only does the film deals with the pros and cons of the internet, but also tackles changes in humans and their aspirations. This is actually a well-made follow-up to the first flick as it is creative, funny, and emotional. 

There are several references and cameos of familiar characters from the worlds of Disney, Marvel, and Star Wars but the film never loses its focus on the two protagonists. I especially love that scene with the Disney Princesses ! It's priceless !

With the voices of John C. Reilley, Sarah Silverman, Gal Gadot, and most of the original voice-actors of the princesses, this is a highly recommended film for the whole family. Directed by Phil Johnston and Rich Moore. Photos c/o Walt Disney Animation Studios. Rated PG.

FANTASTIC BEASTS : THE CRIMES OF GRINDELWALD - Expanding the Wizarding World !

The sequel to Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them, which is also a prequel to the Harry Potter series expands the wizarding world of J.K. Rowling to even more heights. New characters and new beasts were introduced, and new revelations were made.

The opening scene where Gellert Grindelwald is being transferred to another prison is an elaborate action piece which shows how powerful Grindelwald is. Next we see Queenie and Jacob who are now in Paris. And Jacob who lost his memory in the last film, now remembers his good memories. Then followed several sub-plots where we are introduced to other characters, and new beasts. There were so many of them that a viewer would easily get lost in the narrative.

It's exciting to see these new characters like Leta Lestrange, Theseus Scamander, etc. But since they were given little screen time, you don't really get invested in them, and you just don't care. Even those we have seen from the first Fantastic Beasts movie, they were underdeveloped and they didn't really do much. I left the cinema with so many questions.

Now I'm not saying that the movie is bad. It's still good.  The visual effects are stunning, the beasts are awesome, and I'm still looking forward to the next three movies in this franchise. I just hope that they learn from what happened, and make them better next time.

OVERLORD - a bloody gory fest that's fun to watch !

OVERLORD is a mix of war action/adventure and horror/zombie flick. A group of American soldiers were sent to Nazi-occupied France to destroy a German radio transmitter atop a church. They joined forces with a local French woman to take down the tower. But underneath the tower, the Nazi's were making experiments with the dead, turning them into super strong zombie-like creatures.

The cast is made up of young, mostly unknown actors like Jovan Adepo, Wyatt Russell (son of Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn), Mathilde Olivier, etc. They are charming enough to warrant some attention, and audiences were cheering for them whenever they kicked some zombie's ass.

There are no big-name stars since the action scenes are the stars of this show. The monsters are not the slow-walking zombies, but more like the fast and strong creatures of World War Z. There's lots of blood, death, and limbs exploding all-over, but they were made in a way that's fun to watch ! It's a bloody gory fest that will make you feel like you're in an arcade game. However, their heist job is about to be jeopardized by a shady police officer named Diana (Birgit Minichmayr). Find out whose ulterior motive will win in their intense cat and mouse hunt like game.

In the Fade (Aus dem Nichts)

The film follows the life of Katja (Diane Kruger) as she seeks justice for the death of her husband and son after they became victims of a terrorist bombing.
