PCX Celebrates 16 Philippine Companies for 100% Plastic Footprint Recovery

PCX Markets recently held their PULSE event, where they honored 16 Philippine organizations that have committed to achieving 100% recovery of their plastic footprint for 2025, marking a significant step toward responsible production and sustainable practices.


From everyday packaging to industrial waste, the world has produced more than 9 billion tons of plastic, far more than our planet can handle. Of all the plastic ever made, only about 9% of plastic waste is recycled, 19% incinerated, and 72% landfilled, openly burned, or ends up in the environment. In response, PCX is taking accountability for plastic waste and working to reduce the harmful impacts of the plastic pollution crisis. Guided by its mission to ensure no plastic ends up in nature, PCX is driving the nation’s shift toward a circular economy where plastic is recovered and re-circulated as useful materials through reuse, refurbishment, remanufacture, recycling and more.


With the passage of the Republic Act No. 11898 or the Extended Producers Responsibility (EPR) Act of 2022, large companies in the Philippines are required to take responsibility for the post-consumer management of their plastic packaging waste.

Micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) remain the backbone of the economy, comprising 99.5% of all registered businesses in the Philippines and creating 6 out of every 10 jobs*. A celebratory opening ceremony at Robinsons Manila marked the start of the European Higher Education Fair.


Filipino students, researchers and academicians can explore a world of opportunities at the European Higher Education Fair (EHEF) 2025, opening doors to the EU’s top learning and research institutions. 


The opening ceremony will feature a momentous gesture, bringing together the European Union Ambassador and representatives of its EU Member States to showcase their diverse fields of expertise and collectively form an image symbolising the true essence of the fair’s theme “Pathways to Excellence.” 


We are pleased to open the EHEF 2025 here in Manila. EHEF offers Filipino students and researchers a unique opportunity to explore new pathways to excellence while deepening the enduring partnership between the European Union and the Philippines- said European Union Ambassador H.E. Massimo Santoro. 


The EHEF has been held annually for several years and has become one of the flagship events of the European Union Delegation to the Philippines, showcasing the EU as a hub of academic excellence. This year, the fair introduces Copernicus and EURAXESS as new programme sessions.

Hosoda started his career in animation in legendary studio, Toei Animation, formerly known as Toei Doga in 1991. Jobstreet by SEEK uncovers employment fraud trends in APAC PH ranks second as most targeted spot

In recognition of International Fraud Awareness Week, SEEK, the parent company of Jobstreet and Jobsdb, released new insights into employment fraud trends across the Asia-Pacific region, revealing how scammers adapt their tactics to exploit local job market conditions and economic needs. 

The Philippines is revealed to be the second-largest target, representing 20% of APAC fraud attempts, following Indonesia as the dominant fraud hotspot, accounting for 38% of all APAC fraud attempts and 62% of Asian market fraud.

SEEK's fraud detection systems identified distinct regional patterns between July 2024 and June 2025, with fraudsters showing sophisticated targeting strategies that vary between Australia, New Zealand (ANZ), and the six Asian markets SEEK operates in (Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand). The analysis is based on SEEK's internal fraud-detection data across its APAC platforms, including Jobstreet and Jobsdb.

According to SEEK, Administration and Office Support roles remain the primary target across the region, with 29% of fraudulent job ads in Asia. Additionally, Manufacturing, Transport and Logistics roles recorded 16% of fraud attempts, likely aiming to exploit workers seeking immediate employment opportunities. Sales roles across APAC also feature prominently among fraud targets.

Meanwhile, in the Philippines, industries most frequently targeted by scammers include Accounting, Sales, Healthcare and Medical, Administration and Office Support, Manufacturing, Transportation, and Logistics. 

“Administration and office support roles are particularly vulnerable because they typically don't require specialised degrees or extensive experience,” explained Tom Rhind, SEEK's Head of Trust & Safety. “Sales positions show similar patterns, as these roles often promise immediate employment and commission-based earnings that appeal to job seekers in urgent need of income. Combined, these entry-level categories create larger pools of potential victims and make it easier for scammers to cast wide nets with convincing-looking opportunities.”

SEEK’s fair hiring controls in action 

As the Philippines’ leading employment marketplace, Jobstreet by SEEK implements controls to prevent exploitative recruitment and modern slavery to safeguard job seekers. SEEK’s Trust & Safety team operates detailed checks to ensure hirers are legitimate, while automated and manual content moderation screens job advertisements. Candidates are also empowered with reporting tools to flag suspicious postings.

These protection measures include scanning all 4.3 million APAC job ads, with 8% escalated for manual review. This resulted in preventing about 3,600 hirers who failed the onboarding process assessment from entering SEEK’s platforms, closing 650 hirer accounts for fraud or high-risk behavior, and removing nearly 2,800 risky ads. Candidates reported roughly 22,000 suspicious ads, all of which were reviewed by SEEK’s Trust & Safety team.

Combating evolving fraud tactics 

Recently, scammers have increasingly been using artificial intelligence to create more sophisticated scams, while also impersonating SEEK and Jobstreet to contact candidates through SMS, messaging apps, and social media platforms. In the Philippines, one of the most common platforms that scammers use is Viber.

To combat these evolving threats, Jobstreet by SEEK continuously enhances its fraud detection with automated blocking, improved verification, and collaboration with government and industry partners. Through its Security & Privacy Hub, the platform is also educating candidates on scams, unfair hiring practices, safe job searching, and online protection tips.

Announced just moments ago at the Disney+ Originals Preview at Hong Kong Disneyland Resort, Perfect Crown is set in a reimagined modern-day Korea that operates under a constitutional monarchy. A touching romantic comedy, the series follows the people’s favorite royal, Grand Prince Wan, as he becomes embroiled in a power struggle with other members of the royal family. With pressure on the prince to marry, he strikes up a marriage of convenience with Heeju, the heir to a Korean conglomerate, but while the pair will work together to advance their own ends, things don’t go quite as smoothly as planned.



Previously titled Wife of a 21st Century Grand Prince, Perfect Crown stars IU (When Life Gives You Tangerines, My Mister) as Heeju, the second in line to inherit one of Korea’s biggest conglomerates, and Byeon Wooseok (Lovely Runner, Strong Girl Nam-soon) as Grand Prince Wan. The series is directed by Park Joonhwa (Alchemy of Souls, What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim) and is written by Yu Ain.

From visionary filmmaker Mamoru Hosoda (Summer Wars, Mirai) comes Scarlet, a powerful, time-bending animated film about a princess seeking revenge for her father’s death, but fails and awakens in a mysterious afterlife.

Director Hosoda began envisioning the story of Scarlet during the COVID-19 pandemic, the period of isolation kickstarting his inspiration. “Looking at the geo-political state of the world after COVID was a big point of inspiration for me. The idea that people can’t forgive these days still continues to this day and that brings a lot of worry. That influenced the start of this project for me, and I would like to pass on a positive message to the younger generation. In terms of revenge stories, Shakespeare's Hamlet is a masterpiece. There’s this cycle of revenge that is still relevant today, which is why I weaved Shakespearean elements into the story and characters.”



He has also been pursuing a blend of different art styles to give Scarlet unique visuals that complement the themes of travelling to different timelines. “The tools in animation are constantly evolving and improving. Until recently, style of animation was rooted in the country of origin, for example there’s this CG style of animation with Pixar in the US whereas in Europe it’s more artistic and, of course, Japan is known for anime (cell look). Through COVID and streamers, people were exposed to different animations. Disney and Pixar used to dominate the stage of animation. More recently, different styles have mixed and we’ve elevated the industry. Scarlet is much heavier on the CG which enables me as a director to get more into the character expression. There’s lots of CG, of course, but I wanted the hand drawn to still be  preserved. If you look at Spider-Verse, they found a way to mix different styles to have a huge visual impact. I wanted for my film to have a shift in visual style. It feels and looks new and it allows us to show these bigger themes.”



Director Hosoda hopes that Scarlet would start dialogue between moviegoers, and audiences would find their own point of relatability within the film. “Looking at the present-day conflicts, this movie is intended to be a thought-provoking experience. I hope it becomes an entry point for conversation. I think many moviegoers will relate to this idea of revenge. For me, it’s a romantic idea to many people all over the world. There’s always a revenge story. Everyone has someone they can’t forgive. Scarlet too suffers from this but there’s a transformation. I want the audience to feel the process of change and what helps her realize there’s something more important than revenge.”


A journey awaits as Scarlet arrives in Philippine cinemas on December 10.

A decade later, after the Four Horsemen vanished from the public eye, three talented young illusionists; Charlie (Justice Smith), June (Ariana Greenblatt), and Bosco (Dominic Sessa) quietly followed in their heroes’ footsteps, performing underground shows and daring street performances. Their acts became too public online that they caught the attention of J. Daniel Atlas (Jesse Eisenberg), the leader of the original Four Horsemen. 


In a pitch that is part dressing down and part recruitment, Atlas challenges the young talents to take on a high-risk, high-reward mission, testing their skills while pushing them to their limits. But before the “new” Horsemen can succeed, the original Horsemen including Merritt McKinney (Woody Harrelson), Henley Reeves (Isla Fisher), and Jack Wilder (Dave Franco) rounded up after drifting apart into their own separate lives.

Tom Cruise enjoyed The Running Man. 


Cruise recently joined his Top Gun: Maverick co-star Glen Powell at the London premiere of the latter’s new action thriller The Running Man, and according to Cruise, Powell and the rest of the team “crushed it”! 


Posted Cruise on his Instagram: “Another great night out with my friends at the movies! You guys crushed it, congratulations! I laughed, was on the edge of my seat, and ate way too much popcorn.”

It is a competition that no one has survived. But Ben’s defiance, instincts, and grit turn him into an unexpected fan favorite – and a threat to the entire system. As ratings skyrocket, so does the danger, and Ben must outwit not just the Hunters, but a nation addicted to watching him fall. The movie is directed by Edgar Wright (Baby Driver, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, Shaun of the Dead) and also stars Josh Brolin, Colman Domingo, Lee Pace, Emilia Jones, Michael Cera and William H. At Cinema Con in April, Cruise and Powell also shared a fun moment at the red carpet with Wright, Brolin and Domingo. While posing for photos with the team, Cruise joked, “See, I’m in The Running Man, too.” To which Powell quipped: “I will say that all of my running technique did come straight from Tom.”
