INSIDIOUS: OUT OF THE FURTHER review - A Fun Scary Watch for the sixth installment of the franchise

 By: Edgar Allan E. Yu

From the very first "Insidious" movie, this franchise has taken us on a chilling journey through supernatural horrors, with two sequels and two prequels expanding the terrifying world of the Lambert family. Now, with the sixth installment, INSIDIOUS OUT OF THE FURTHER, begins a new era. This time, the focus shifts to Gina, a dentist with the rare and haunting ability to travel to the Further—and the terrifying power to bring back entities into our world. Alongside her is her daughter Maya, who shares this dangerous gift, making them prime targets for relentless demons desperate to cross over.

This film delivers exactly what fans crave: plenty of heart-pounding jump scares and demons that are genuinely scary. The leader of these malevolent forces, Cyrus Lam, is a formidable and truly terrifying presence, supported by his three eerie acolytes who add an unsettling depth to the horror. One standout scene is the claustrophobic couch tunnel, where Gina must crawl through tight, confined spaces, only to encounter demons lurking in the shadows—an intense sequence that will have you gripping your seat. Another unforgettable moment is the dental clinic scene—gruesome and disgusting, yet perfectly crafted for a horror movie that knows how to push boundaries.

The performances by Amelia Eve, Sam Spruell, and the ever-iconic Lin Shaye—the face of the Insidious series—are remarkable. Directed by Jacob Chase, this installment arguably stands as the best sequel yet, breathing new life into the franchise while honoring its roots. The audience in my cinema was screaming and laughing throughout, a testament to the film’s ability to entertain and frighten simultaneously. Filipino audiences, known for their love of horror, were especially thrilled.

If you’re a fan of horror movies, INSIDIOUS: OUT OF THE FURTHER is a must-watch. Gather your friends, family, or even co-workers for a night of scary fun that will keep you on the edge of your seat. This movie proves that the Insidious franchise still knows how to deliver spine-tingling excitement with every chapter.

Critics call “The End of Oak Street” a crowd-pleasing popcorn movie, the best dinosaur movie since the ’90s Don’t miss “The End of Oak Street”, now showing in cinemas!

Critics are enjoying “The End of Oak Street,” praising the direction, style and performances, with one even calling it “a callback to classic sci-fi adventure.”

In their review, Collider, besides describing the film as a callback to sci-fi adventure classics, described the film as a lot of fun. They’re particularly impressed with director David Robert Mitchell’s work on the movie and, of course, Anne Hathaway. “It’s 90 minutes of edge-of-your-seat entertainment that commits to its concept and entertains throughout,” they wrote. “Big, loud, and guaranteed to make you jump at least once, it’s another eye-catching performance from the always-busy Hathaway, and proof that blockbuster entertainment doesn’t need to follow a franchise formula.”

Set in ’80s suburbia, “The End of Oak Street,” directed by David Robert Mitchell (“It Follows”) and co-produced by J.J. Abrams (“Super 8,” “Lost”), tells the story of the Platt family, played by Anne Hathaway, Ewan McGregor, Maisy Stella (“My Old Ass”) and Christian Convery (“Sweet Tooth”). After a mysterious cosmic event rips Oak Street from suburbia and transports their neighborhood to someplace unknown, the Platt family soon discovers that their very survival depends on them sticking together as they navigate their now unrecognizable surroundings.

IndieWire felt they were truly back in the ’80s, a time when Amblin Entertainment (founded by Steven Spielberg) released many of their now beloved classics, including “E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial,” “Poltergeist” and “Back to the Future.” “A crowd-pleasing but winkingly mean-spirited Amblin homage that perfectly captures the sweet menace of movies like ‘Gremlins’ and ‘The Goonies’ (so perfectly, in fact, that it almost feels like you’ve been sucked through a hole in space-time yourself), ‘The End of Oak Street’ is what multiplexes have been missing from recent summers,” they wrote. “Lean, clever, original, cheer-at-the-screen entertainment that will traumatize 10-year-olds for life and make their parents feel like they’re kids again.”

Ewan McGregor as Greg, and Anne Hathaway as Denise, wield their weapons of choice in their fight for survival against dinosaurs in “The End of Oak Street.”

For JoBlo.com, “The End of Oak Street” is the best dinosaur movie since the ’90s, when dinosaurs first became a massive movie phenomenon. And ComingSoon.net wrote that the film is “an extremely entertaining popcorn movie that feels designed to be experienced with a packed theater, complete with jump scares, big thrills, audience screams, and plenty of moments that practically beg you to shout at the screen.”

Ever since he was a kid, director David Robert Mitchell always wanted to make a dinosaur movie. “My dad was obsessed with dinosaurs, he had always dreamed of being a paleontologist and was always reading dinosaur books. So, I grew up around it,” shares the filmmaker. “I fell in love with the idea of doing it, but I didn’t know what would be my version of a dinosaur film. Then a few years ago I was walking through my neighborhood, just a casual stroll, and I was passing by this really interesting house and this alleyway. And I just imagined that there was a dinosaur there digging through the trash. I just could see it, and I stopped and I looked at this interesting tableau of this fantastical thing in this mundane place in a middle-class neighborhood. And I thought, I want to write something that feels like this. I want to make a movie that feels like this image in my mind.”

Run for your life! Christian Convery as Brian, and Maisy Stella as Audrey, flee from a dinosaur in “The End of Oak Street.”

Producer J.J. Abrams says that there are amazing sequences in “The End of Oak Street.” “One in particular I think could be a classic terror scene,” he shares. “But I think the big takeaway is the thrill of seeing dinosaurs in a suburban setting. The contrast of these wild creatures in an absolutely mundane neighborhood is spectacular. The insane story becomes far more relatable than you might expect.”

Run towards the cinemas and catch “The End of Oak Street,” now showing nationwide. #EndofOakStreet

Jobstreet by SEEK reveals 80% of Filipinos feel fairly paid, but only 59% are happy with their salary

PRESS RELEASE

Despite ongoing cost-of-living challenges and inflationary pressures, the Philippines emerges as one of the regional leaders in salary optimism. According to the latest 2026 Salary Pulse Report released by Jobstreet by SEEK, the Philippines ranks second in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region for pay satisfaction, with 80% of Filipino workers feeling fairly or well paid; just behind Indonesia’s 81%.

However, the report reveals a critical primary insight for today's employment landscape: getting fairly paid no longer equals workplace contentment, as only 59% report being happy with their salary, highlighting a disconnect between what they consider fair and what they’d like to earn. In parallel, 45% of respondents say that their earnings still fall below their actual cost-of-living needs.

The Salary Pulse Report was conducted in February 2026, gathering over a thousand employed respondents in the Philippines. Jobstreet by SEEK, through this report, seeks to focus on attitudes and experiences around pay, including how fairly people feel paid, how happy they are with their salary, and how they approach pay conversations.

On salary fairness and work happiness

The 2026 Salary Pulse Report uncovers a notable disconnect between perceived market fairness and actual salary happiness. Among employees who view their pay as "fair (about right)," only 44% are actually satisfied with that level of remuneration, leaving 56% unsatisfied.

This indicates that workers evaluate salary not merely against industry benchmarks, but against their workload, how well they feel rewarded, and how it sustains their lifestyle. Employees’ expectations, as the report suggests, are likewise shaped by how strongly they believe their contribution is valued, and by how well their salary supports what matters to them outside of work.

Salary happiness has also been the driving motivation for Filipinos to stay in their jobs. When workers in the Philippines are happy with their pay, they're over 2.2x more likely to feel motivated and willing to put in extra effort at work. Conversely, unhappy workers are 2.9x more likely to actively look for a new job.

The Salary Pulse Report also finds that many workers in the Philippines are willing to make compromises, but highly value positive work culture. About 28% of employees stated they would consider relocating to another city or country for a 10% raise. Yet, the same workers are far less likely to sacrifice a positive workplace environment in exchange for a toxic culture for a 10% pay increase.

“The gap between fair pay and salary satisfaction shows that compensation is only one part of the employee experience. Employers need to look beyond salary benchmarks and pair competitive pay with meaningful recognition, clear career pathways, and open conversations about growth to build engaged, future-ready teams,” said Dannah Majarocon, Managing Director of Jobstreet by SEEK in the Philippines.

Pay satisfaction across generations and industries

Generational priorities further shape compensation sentiment across the country. Millennials feel the most financially squeezed, with around half (54%) who are happy with their pay stating their salary falls below their standard of living needs, resulting in a lower salary happiness score (54%) compared to Gen Z (61%) and Gen X (60%).

While millennials are hesitant to compromise on the workplace environment, the report reveals they are the most open to pursuing side hustles to bridge their financial gap. In contrast, Gen Z workers (83%) are open to making trade-offs such as accepting a lower job title or less meaningful work for a 10% raise.

Across industries, Technology (54%) and Construction (50%) lead the market in workers who feel well paid, recording the highest overall salary happiness. Stronger wage growth drives this sentiment, with nearly half of workers in these sectors receiving raises in the last 12 months. Conversely, Industrial sector workers report the lowest pay satisfaction, with 58% noting their earnings fall below cost-of-living requirements.

The findings from the 2026 Salary Pulse Report present a strategic opportunity for Philippine business leaders and policymakers to modernize compensation models and performance management practices. By bridging the gap between pay fairness and meaningful reward, organizations can foster higher employee engagement, lower turnover risks, and build a resilient, future-ready workforce.

THE END OF OAK STREET Film Review - Refreshing, Comedic, Adventure. The best dinosaur movie to come out in years !

By: Edgar Allan E. Yu

THE END OF OAK STREET offers a thrilling and fresh take on the dinosaur genre that you absolutely cannot miss. Imagine waking up to find your entire neighborhood transported to the prehistoric age—dinosaurs roaming freely right outside your doorstep. The dinosaurs in this story are genuinely terrifying, with a slow, masterful build-up before their dramatic reveal. The film features a great variety of species and plenty of intense dinosaur action scenes that will satisfy any fan of adventure and suspense.

Anne Hathaway delivers a powerhouse performance, carrying the film from beginning to end as a no-nonsense mom who takes matters firmly into her own hands. Ewan McGregor complements her perfectly, portraying a husband who may not be perfect but certainly has his own memorable moments battling the prehistoric threat. Their kids, typical teens who make some questionable choices, add a relatable and likable dynamic to the family. The movie also pays homage to 1980s films, immersing you in the year 1982 with a blend of action, drama, comedy, horror, and science fiction.

This is, without a doubt, the best dinosaur movie to come out in years. The audience in our cinema was completely engaged, reacting to every twist and turn. If you love adventure and thrillers, THE END OF OAK STREET is an absolute must-watch. We had so much fun experiencing this cinematic ride! Thanks to @warnerbrosph for bringing this exciting story to life. #EndOfOakStreet is in cinemas now—go see it in the biggest screens !

Director Jacob Chase takes the horror to new heights in “Insidious: Out of the Further” In PH cinemas August 19, including midnight screenings

 COLUMBIA PICTURES

Original filmmakers turned producers James Wan and Leigh Whannell pass the torch to director Jacob Chase for Insidious: Out of the Further. The latest film in the Insidious franchise tells the tale through the lens of a new family, with a new threat redefining the true horrors of The Further.

In Insidious: Out of the Further Gemma (Amelia Eve, The Haunting of Hill House), a young mother raising her daughter in her childhood home, discovers that she can dip into The Further. The Further is the dark realm where souls wander lost. When something more sinister starts to visit Gemma, she realizes that The Further runs both ways, and she can bring items in the realm to the physical world. Demons take advantage of her ability and crawl into the real world, sowing horror and destruction.

Watch the newest trailer: https://youtu.be/b0vevY6iVRw

Leigh Whannell, who wrote the original Insidious and directed Insidious: Chapter 3, loves the terrifying new premise Jacob Chase brought to the table. “When James and I built the Further, the one rule was that you went there in spirit, never in body. What Jacob found was the scariest question we’d never asked: what if something could actually make the trip both ways? That cracks the whole world open.”

James Wan explains that this development takes the concept of The Further the Insidious franchise built and integrates dark new possibilities. “The Further is now leaking—escaping into our real world,” he explains. “That’s something we’ve never seen to this extent. We’ve seen premonitions or glimpses of the Further bleeding into our world, but never to the extent where they take physical form.”

Wan has full confidence in what Chase has got to offer, and enjoys the refreshing take on something he’s created. “I say to all my directors that come and play in these franchises, ‘Here is the sandbox. Stay within the sandbox, but within it, do whatever you want,’” he explains.

Inside the sandbox is writer-director Jacob Chase, whose love for horror has begun early in his life. “I have a love of theater, and that translated into making haunted house attractions for years,” he recalls. “I’d do it with my friends, starting in high school and going into my early 20s, for a charity event, and it became a huge success. A haunted house has everything—it’s filmmaking, it’s storytelling, it’s great characters—most importantly, it’s the communal experience. There’s no better feeling than seeing someone screaming and laughing, whether they’re running out of a haunted house or in a movie theater.”

How the story for Insidious: Out of the Further came from a vulnerable time in Chase’s life. “When I was writing Insidious: Out of the Further, my wife was pregnant, and I had a deep fear about becoming a dad,” he says. Tapping into that, he says, “was a great opportunity to start an Insidious movie from a real, personal place.”

“Insidious: Out of the Further” haunts Philippine cinemas on August 19, starting at midnight. Head to your local cinema or check out their ticketing websites to find out more. For more news and updates, check out Columbia Pictures PH’s Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok.

7 Reasons Aseana City Reflects the Future of Retirement Living in the Bay Area

Retirement today is no longer defined by slowing down. More people are choosing to stay active, travel, pursue new interests, and spend meaningful time with family. As lifestyles evolve, so do expectations for where retirement should happen.

A recent Colliers Philippines review highlights the Bay Area as one of Metro Manila's emerging retirement destinations, pointing to its accessibility, mixed-use developments, healthcare ecosystem, and improving infrastructure as key factors driving its appeal.

More importantly, the report reflects a broader shift in priorities. Today's retirees aren't simply looking for a home – they're looking for communities that support the way they want to live.

These same themes are increasingly visible in developments like Aseana City, which sits at the heart of the Bay Area and reflects how these emerging needs are being translated into a real, lived urban environment.

Here are seven qualities that, according to Colliers’ review of emerging retirement trends in the Bay Area, are shaping the next generation of retirement living – and how they are reflected in communities like Aseana City.

1. Easy Access to Healthcare and Wellness

Health remains one of the most important considerations in retirement, and proximity to medical services is becoming a defining factor in choosing where to live.

In the Bay Area, this is reflected in the planned hospital development of a future St Lukes – Aseana City that is expected to further strengthen the district’s position as a future-ready community. For retirees, this signals greater peace of mind, knowing that world-class medical care will be integrated into the area’s long-term ecosystem, alongside environments that encourage active and healthy living.

2. Everyday Convenience

One of the defining characteristics of thriving urban communities is the integration of everyday essentials within easy reach. For retirees, having access to grocery stores, restaurants, banks, pharmacies, and other daily services can make life simpler, more comfortable, and less dependent on long commutes.

Aseana City reflects this approach through its integrated master plan, where residential, commercial, office, and lifestyle components are thoughtfully brought together. By placing everyday needs within 15-minute walking time allows residents to spend less time getting from one place to another and more time enjoying the activities and people that matter most.

3. Walkability and Accessibility

Improving infrastructure and connectivity are key factors strengthening the Bay Area’s attractiveness, particularly for aging populations seeking safer and more accessible environments.

Aseana City supports this shift through its pedestrian-friendly design, climate protected walkways, and connected public spaces. Its layout encourages walking and short-distance mobility, allowing residents to move comfortably within the community while staying active and engaged in their surroundings.

4. Spaces for Leisure and Recreation

Retirement today is increasingly about having the time and freedom to enjoy life. Beyond meeting everyday needs, many retirees are looking for communities that offer opportunities to relax, stay active, and pursue personal interests close to home.

Within Aseana City, this is reflected in its open spaces, dining destinations, and lifestyle areas that encourage relaxation and social interaction. These spaces allow residents to pursue hobbies, meet friends, and enjoy everyday experiences without needing to travel far, making leisure a natural part of everyday living.

5. Staying Connected to Family

Accessibility plays an important role in choosing a place to live, especially for retirees who value being close to family, friends, and important destinations. A well-connected community makes it easier to maintain relationships and continue enjoying meaningful experiences with loved ones.

For Aseana City, its strategic location within the Bay Area allows family members from different parts of Metro Manila, nearby provinces, or even abroad to visit more conveniently. This ease of access creates more opportunities for gatherings, celebrations, and shared moments, helping retirees stay connected to the people who matter most.

6. A Sense of Community

Integrated, mixed-use environments play an important role in creating more connected and vibrant urban communities. Beyond physical infrastructure, retirees are increasingly looking for places where they can build relationships, feel a sense of belonging, and remain engaged in everyday life.

Aseana City reflects this through its public spaces and community-oriented design, which encourage interaction among residents, visitors, and workers within the district. These shared environments help create a more connected and engaging urban experience.

7. A Lifestyle That Supports Living Well

Perhaps the biggest shift highlighted in the Colliers review is that retirement is no longer just about finding a residence, but about choosing a well-connected, well-supported community ecosystem.

As the Bay Area continues to evolve, its growing appeal reflects these changing priorities. With improving infrastructure, expanding healthcare facilities and infrastructure, mixed-use developments, and greater connectivity – key themes identified in Colliers’ analysis, Aseana City stands as an example of how these elements come together in a single, integrated district.

Ultimately, the best retirement destination isn't defined by age or location alone. It's defined by how well a community enables people to enjoy their time, pursue their interests, stay connected with loved ones, and make the most of every day.

Meet the Platts. Anne Hathaway, Ewan McGregor talk about working together to survive as a family, with their dog Starbuck, in “THE END OF OAK STREET,” in cinemas and IMAX starting August 12

 WARNER BROS. PICTURES

Anne Hathaway wants her suburban mom character Denise Platt to be a surprise.

While crafting the look for her character Denise Platt, an early ’80s wife and mom living in the suburbs in “The End of Oak Street,” Hathaway was inspired by Dorothy’s iconic look in “The Wizard of Oz.” “I thought about the time in history when Denise would have gotten married, and what the world around her would have been like, how things would have changed, so I wanted her to be someone who felt a little bit like a doll, who may have felt like a little girl who hadn’t quite grown up all the way,” shares Hathaway. “And the more I read the script, I kind of kept coming back to this reference point of Dorothy from ‘The Wizard of Oz,’ and I was speaking to Erin Benach, our costume designer, and I said, ‘Do you think you could please put me in a lot of blue before the dinosaurs come? Because I feel like that’s Dorothy in her gingham dress.’

“There was just something about it that I loved. I just wanted everything to feel very defenseless, so the house coat she wears, it has that pink under layer to it, pink pockets on it, and I just wanted her to feel like the last person you would ever imagine could transform into a beast, so that way when she does, when she’s got blood splattered on her and she’s screaming and protecting her children from certain death from a gigantic billion-foot-long snake thing, you’re just like, ‘wow, I had you wrong, Denise Platt.’”

In “The End of Oak Street,” directed by David Robert Mitchell (“It Follows”) and co-produced by J.J. Abrams, Hathaway, Ewan McGregor, Maisy Stella and Christian Convery play the Platts, whose life is upended after a mysterious cosmic event rips their street from suburbia and transports their neighborhood to someplace unknown, a place where dinosaurs roam the streets.

McGregor says that fighting with dinosaurs was a lot of fun. “Annie and I had some really long runs to do,” says the actor, “over gardens, down streets, jumping fences, running over peoples’ front yards, careful not to put our ankle down a hole. But we had fun doing that.”

But for McGregor, the family is the heart of the movie. “As much as the dinosaur action is going to be incredible and insane, I think if you didn’t have a believable family at the heart of it that you cared about, it wouldn’t matter so much,” he says.

Fortunately, long before cameras rolled on the film’s biggest action sequences, Hathaway, McGregor, Stella (daughter Audrey) and Convery (son Brian) developed the easy chemistry the filmmakers had hoped for. Between takes they spent time together talking and laughing, creating the genuine warmth that anchors the Platt family on screen.

Both on and off camera, McGregor emerged as the emotional center of the cast. Hathaway admired his effortless transition into demanding stunt work, while Stella credits his warmth and humor with helping the cast quickly feel like a believable family.

Prior to “The End of Oak Street,” Maisy Stella (“My Old Ass”) hadn’t done wire work, which made the filming experience even more exciting. “It’s big!” she shares. “The action and the stunts and the scope of the film feel very exciting. I have not done wire work before, and it was really cool! we could feel the intensity, and I think the action is really nicely balanced with the family’s love and care, and their dynamic with each other. I think it needed that really beautiful blend of both.”

Christian Convery, who won a Children’s and Family Emmy Award for his lead role in “Sweet Tooth,” enthusiastically talks about the film’s action too. “The scale of the action on Oak Street is definitely not what you would see in a normal action movie, because there are dinosaurs!” he shares. “There are ravenous, murderous dinosaurs that are constantly chasing our beloved protagonists throughout this film. There’s a lot of fence hopping. There is a lot of screaming. There are a lot of rooftops and a lot of jumping.”

Apart from mom, dad and the kids, another very important part of the Platt family is their dog, Starbuck. Starbuck was brought to life by two Australian Cattle Dogs: Buzz, who excelled in quieter emotional moments, and Brisket, who handled many of the film’s physically demanding action sequences. Together they created one unforgettable canine companion.

Shares director Mitchell, “Working with animals is always challenging, but our Starbuck – or Starbucks, actually, there were two – I love what they did. It was really nice having them on set and some of the sequences where, for example, Christian, who plays Brian, is interacting with his dog, are really beautiful. And we had a very talented trainer for these really talented dogs, which was great.”

Brisket formed close bonds with the cast, becoming a source of comic relief and comfort during long days of action-heavy filming. Brisket was especially close with Hathaway, often ignoring his assigned seat and curling up beside Hathaway instead. Their friendship quickly became an on-set favorite, and Hathaway has joked that pizza was more than enough motivation to keep Brisket happy.

For Hathaway, Starbuck is the undisputed hero of the film. “We were lucky to have Buzz and Brisket,” says the actress.
