STREET FIGHTER review: Hardcore action, with splendid use of animation makes this a winner!

By: Edgar Allan E. Yu

The new Street Fighter movie is an absolute blast from start to finish, delivering a vibrant spectacle that fans and newcomers alike will thoroughly enjoy. The film dazzles with its eye-popping, colorful sets and impeccably detailed costumes that bring the legendary fighting roster to life like never before. The action is practically non-stop, keeping the adrenaline pumping from the very first frame.

The fight choreography, which faithfully recreates the iconic special moves and fighting styles from the classic video games are extraordinary. Also the brilliant use of stylized animation during character flashbacks are amazing. I would love to see a full Street Fighter movie in this style. The entire experience is further elevated by a rockin', cool soundtrack that perfectly complements the high-octane energy on screen.

Packed with clever Easter eggs that will have longtime fans cheering, this cinematic ride strikes the perfect balance between nostalgia and modern blockbuster flair. It doesn't take itself too seriously, embracing the bold, electric spirit of the franchise while delivering non-stop fun. If you're looking for a fun, action-packed thrill ride at the movies, Street Fighter delivers the ultimate knock-out!

WWE superstar Joe “Roman Reigns” Anoa’i, who plays fan favorite Akuma, agrees that this iteration of the popular video game is going to be a new experience for fans. “We’ve done properly what hasn’t been done before – fleshing out a world that so many people of all ages know and love,” he says. “There’s that escapism. You can leave everything behind and get lost in this universe, and we’ve put that on film. Audiences are going to immerse themselves in this world of Street Fighter.”

Noah Centineo, who plays Ken, recommends that movie audiences flock to the biggest cinema they can possibly watch the movie in: “It’s a huge movie. It is so visually stimulating that seeing that on a huge screen is the way to see it. The fights are sweaty, and bloody, you want to see that huge, and the sound design – the seats are going to shake. Street Fighter is one of those movies that should be seen in an IMAX theater.”

Street Fighter is going to feel like a roller coaster, and I can’t wait to see what people look like as the rollercoaster comes in for landing.”

Jason Momoa, who pulls off double duty as a producer and one of the actors (Blanka), says that the movie has something in it for everyone: “Street Fighter will make you laugh, and cry, and have a really great time. This is my childhood. Street Fighter was everything growing up. For existing fans, and new fans, it’s such a diverse world and cast - there’s something for everyone in it.”

Director Kitao Sakurai on the set of Street Fighter

As a fan of the games himself when he was a kid, director Kitao Sakurai was honored to have helmed Street Fighter, especially because he had a chance to relive the feeling he had as a child playing the video game – a feeling he’s hoping audiences will experience as well. “As a Japanese-American filmmaker, to have the honor to do Street Fighter makes me feel incredibly proud,” he says. “To be able to incorporate the feelings I had as a child, to be able to bring to life the aspects of the game that as a fan, you felt in your heart, is exactly what I hope the movie captures. We’re excited that this is the most accurate Street Fighter adaptation ever made, in terms of the fighting styles, the moves, the costumes and the tone and spirit of the characters. And I hope people go see it in IMAX or other premium exhibition formats, for the incredible visuals, and the soundtrack where these needle drops are immersive and banging.”

Street Fighter is now showing in all cinemas, including IMAX, nationwide. Don’t miss it! #StreetFighterMovie

Helios Convenes Partners in Solar Expo to Help Address Rising Household Electricity Costs

 PRESS RELEASE

Helios Chief Executive Officer Mr. Edmund Martinez introduces Helios as the solar partner for every Filipino home

Filipino homeowners have recently gathered at U.P. Town Center for Manila’s first residential solar expo, where Helios Sustainable Energy Corp. and over 20 financial and industry partners showcased solutions to eliminate upfront costs and lower rising household electric bills.

The Helios Solar Expo 2026 welcomes homeowners to Manila's first residential solar expo at U.P. Town Center, Quezon City

With electricity rates steadily climbing across the Philippines, homeowners are increasingly turning to solar energy to manage household costs. However, adoption is frequently delayed by upfront setup expenses and complex, inconsistent supplier quotes. The two-day expo addressed these challenges directly by offering one-on-one consultations, live system comparisons, on-ground financing approvals, and "Solar 101" educational sessions led by industry experts.

“A lot of people walked in with their solar questions and rising electric bills,” said Mr. Edmund Martinez, Chief Executive Officer of Helios. “By the time they left the expo, they knew what solar would cost them per month and which bank would finance it. That’s what we want. Real numbers, not guesswork.”

Visitors explore booth exhibits and consult with Helios’ financial and industry partners

Making Solar Accessible with ₱0 Upfront Financing

Founded in 2023, Helios operates as an end-to-end residential solar platform handling design, permitting, bank financing, installation, and long-term maintenance. Serving most of Luzon and Cebu, the company enables homeowners to transition to solar power with ₱0 upfront cost through flexible financing models, including solar mortgages and structured monthly plans backed by over 20 financial partners.

Participating bank and financing partners at the expo included BDO, BPI, UnionBank, Security Bank, RCBC, EastWest Bank, Home Credit, SB Finance, Coins.ph, Pag-IBIG Fund, and Country Funders. Component and tech brand partners present included Atmoce, LuxPower, Dyness, Power AI, SunSynk, Bluetti, and Stronghold Insurance.

Helios specialists conducted personalized one-on-one consultations to help families calculate potential monthly energy savings

“Solar used to be for families who could write a big check,” added Martinez. “With our 20+ financing partners offering a range of solutions—from solar mortgages and credit card promos to personal loans—getting started with solar now costs zero pesos upfront. All we ask is that people sit down and do the math with us.”

Looking Beyond Sticker Prices

A core message emphasized during the weekend was evaluating rooftop solar based on total lifetime value rather than low initial quotes. Experts urged homeowners to review warranty coverages, net metering support, after-sales service, and VAT inclusivity to ensure long-term savings.

Helios Chief Executive Officer Mr. Edmund Martinez delivers his presentation on making rooftop solar accessible and affordable for Filipino households

“I tell every homeowner the same thing: look past the price on the quote,” said Martinez. “Ask who’s going to show up in year five if something needs fixing in your solar system. That part of solar never makes it onto the flyer, but it’s where your money is protected.”

Helios aims to empower more households across Luzon and Cebu to take control of their energy needs. Homeowners who missed the live event can still calculate their potential monthly savings and book a free, no-commitment home evaluation online.

Romuald John De Guzman, a Jobstreet by SEEK user since his career started, shared in his testimonial that through the platform, he finally discovered an opportunity to work as a business analyst at an international bank, where he bridged the gap between business and technology. He finds this role an ideal fit for his personality, as someone passionate about collaborating with people.

Fourteen years into his corporate career, Romuald continues to build on that experience, with Jobstreet by SEEK having been part of his professional journey. “I started with just one resume, and it landed me in places using Jobstreet,” he stated.

XPENG STAGES GRAND PHILIPPINE LAUNCH, REVEALS FULL X9 AND L03 LINEUP

Six variants debut across the flagship XPENG X9 Ultra-Intelligent Seven-Seater MPV and the XPENG L03 Next-Generation AI SUV Coupé, with prices starting at ₱1,548,000

Ownership packages include free preventive maintenance, roadside assistance, warranties and charging equipment

Actress, television host, and recording artist Anne Curtis joins XPENG as official brand ambassador at SM Mall of Asia Arena launch attended by audience of 3,000 guests

PASAY CITY, Philippines | September 25, 2026 — Global Physical AI company XPENG officially launched in the Philippines on Friday, introducing a six-variant lineup across the XPENG X9 and XPENG L03 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.

The launch expands the company’s initial Philippine offering with newly announced versions of both models, joining the flagship variants whose prices were released earlier this month. The full lineup gives Filipino customers a broader choice of premium electric and range-extended vehicles, with prices starting at ₱1,548,000.

The event marked a major milestone in XPENG’s continuing expansion across Southeast Asia. An audience of 3,000, comprising media, content creators, dealer and banking partners, automotive industry executives, special guests and members of the public, gathered for a presentation that combined the vehicle debuts with a broader look at the company’s work in Physical AI.

One of the evening’s major moments was the formal introduction of Anne Curtis as XPENG Philippines’ official brand ambassador. The actress, television host and recording artist joins the company as it begins bringing its vehicles and vision for Physical AI to Filipino audiences. Her sophisticated style, broad appeal and ability to remain relevant across generations reflect XPENG’s premium, modern and technology-led identity.

XPENG Officially Launches in the Philippines with Anne Curtis (center) as brand ambassador. Joining her are (from left to right) Katoon Su, Country Manager of XPENG Philippines; Sam Chu, General Manager of XPENG Southeast Asia; James Wu, Vice President of XPENG; JuanMa Lopez, Vice President - Design, XPENG; Pang Chao, Head of Brand Marketing for Southeast Asia and Australia New Zealand, XPENG; Vincent Yambao, Chief Operating Officer, XPENG Philippines; and James Qi, Head of Global Aftersales, XPENG.

The presentation also offered a glimpse of XPENG’s innovations beyond automobiles through special displays of the X2 Flying Car and IRON Humanoid Robot. Performances by singer-songwriter TJ Monterde, Pinoy Pop group GAT and social media personality Criselda Alvarez further added to the scale and energy of the arena launch.

“Tonight, Filipino customers saw the full range of choices behind our Philippine debut, from the space and comfort of the XPENG X9 to the different electric driving options offered by the XPENG L03,” said Katoon Su, Country Director of XPENG Philippines. “We are pairing these vehicles with comprehensive ownership support and a growing dealer network because the customer experience after the launch matters just as much as the technology presented on stage.”

XPENG X9: Two Choices for the Flagship MPV

The XPENG X9, the brand’s flagship Ultra-Intelligent Seven-Seater MPV, enters the Philippine market  in two Long Range variants designed around different passenger needs and preferences. The XPENG X9 Long Range is priced at ₱3,858,000, while the XPENG X9 with Second Row Premium Seat Package is priced at ₱4,058,000, as previously announced.

The two variants provide distinct approaches to second-row comfort and cabin use. The variant with the Premium Seat Package creates a more individualized second-row seating experience through four-way powered headrest adjustment and 16-point massage while the X9 Long Range features Zero-Gravity seats separated by a central aisle, offering passengers convenient access between the second and third rows.

Whichever configuration customers choose, both variants share the same core XPENG X9 technologies. Class-leading active rear-wheel steering gives the large MPV a turning radius of just 5.4 meters, helping it maneuver through tight turns, narrow streets and parking areas. Intelligent dual-chamber air suspension supports a comfortable and composed ride, while the powered third row folds beneath the floor at the touch of a button to create additional cargo space.

Both variants are powered by the same front-wheel-drive electric system producing 235 kW and 450 Nm. Each is equipped with a 110 kWh battery and delivers up to 615 km of driving range (WLTP)1. With a compatible DC fast charger and under optimal conditions, the XPENG X9 can charge from 10 to 80 percent in approximately 12 minutes.

The XPENG X9 is available in Midnight Black, Arctic White and Matte Gray, with Silver Frost available by special order. Both variants come with a Meteorite Black interior, while Coffee is available by special order.

XPENG L03: The Electric Choice with a Range-Extended Option

The XPENG L03 Next-Generation AI SUV Coupé launches in four variants, comprising three battery-electric models and one range-extended electric vehicle (REEV).

Leading the lineup is the previously announced XPENG L03 EV RWD Long Range Ultra at ₱2,058,000. It is joined by the XPENG L03 EV Long Range at ₱1,698,000, the XPENG L03 REEV at ₱1,598,000, and the XPENG L03 EV Standard Range at ₱1,548,000.

The Long Range Ultra features a 71.1 kWh battery and delivers a driving range of up to 480 kms1. It also adds front-seat massage, an upgraded sound system and additional intelligent driving hardware.

The EV Long Range uses the same 71.1 kWh battery and offers up to 520 km driving range1. The EV Standard Range combines a 58.3 kWh battery with up to 445 km of range1, providing a more accessible entry point into the L03 lineup.

The REEV variant is designed for customers who want the everyday experience of driving an electric vehicle while retaining the flexibility to travel longer distances. Its 37.2 kWh battery is larger than those commonly found in conventional hybrids and earlier-generation range-extended vehicles, providing up to 215 km of pure electric range¹. This allows many daily commutes, errands and even intercity journeys to be completed using battery power alone.

Compared with range-extended vehicles offering approximately 100 km or less of electric range, the L03 REEV delivers a more complete EV driving experience for a greater portion of everyday travel. When additional range is required, its onboard engine generates electricity for the battery rather than driving the wheels directly, extending the vehicle’s combined WLTP range to as much as 1,017 km.

All four L03 variants use an electric motor to drive the rear wheels. With a compatible DC fast charger and under optimal conditions, they can charge from 10 to 80 percent in approximately 20 minutes.

Across the lineup, the L03 provides a five-seat cabin, a 539-liter rear luggage area, a 15.6-inch central touchscreen, and XPENG’s suite of driver assistance and safety technologies. Exterior colors include Arctic White, Midnight Black, Rock Gray, Silver Frost, and Phantom Purple, paired with a Dark Gray interior.

Paired with the ProVisual Engine, the Galaxy S26 FE helps bring out more detail and clarity in concert shots, from the glow of the stage lights to those darker moments in between. An enduring icon for modern Filipino homes

Frigidaire as a legacy brand is more relevant today than ever with design and technological innovations

Frigidaire PerfectMatch in action: three PureFit with Metal-Tech Cooling units blend seamlessly within one kitchen cabinet. From left: 11 cu. ft. built-in upright freezer (model: FR-PF11NBBS); 13 cu. ft. upright refrigerator (model: FR-PR13NBBS); and 12 cu. ft. bottom freezer refrigerator (model: FR-PB12NCBS).

An iconic brand is trusted not only for reliable, consistent quality, but also for ingenuity in technology and functionality.

Frigidaire—the globally trusted consumer brand that has made its mark in Filipino culture by being synonymous with “refrigerator”—ensures its enduring presence with design and technological innovations that make it more relevant than ever to Filipino families.

With its recent reintroduction to the local market, Frigidaire brings a host of features especially suited for modern interiors and living spaces:

Frigidaire's PureFit Built-In Multi-Door Refrigerator (Model: FR-BI18HBBS) features innovative PureFit Design Technology, combining a dynamic condenser and specially engineered hinges to achieve a true flush-fit installation creating a sleek, seamless look for modern kitchens.

At the heart of Frigidaire's latest innovation is PureFit Design Technology, delivering a “no gap” true flush-fit installation that integrates seamlessly with modern kitchen cabinetry. Featured in the Frigidaire FR-BI18HBBS 18-cubic-foot multi-door refrigerator, PureFit Design combines a Dynamic Condenser and specially engineered hinges to keep the side walls cool, allowing for a true built-in installation. This innovative design provides up to 10% more interior storage capacity—or approximately 150 liters of additional space—while maintaining the same external footprint.

Designed with precision engineering, Frigidaire’s PureFit Built-In Multi-Door Refrigerator (Model: FR-BI18HBBS) balances slim exterior dimensions (190.2 cm H × 90.5 cm W × 59.7 cm D) with maximum spatial efficiency—delivering approximately 10% increased internal storage capacity without compromising its seamless, modern profile.

Perfect Match concept, a modular refrigeration system that combines the FR-PF11NBBS (All Freezer), FR-PR13NBBS (All Refrigeration), and FR-PB12NCBS (Bottom Freezer). Together, these models provide up to 36 cubic feet of total cooling storage capacity while maintaining a seamless built-in appearance. Each unit features PureFit Design Technology, letting homeowners and designers customize premium kitchen configurations without sacrificing aesthetics or functionality.

Effortless Access, Uncompromised Vision: Engineered with a 105° wide-angle door opening, the Frigidaire PureFit built-in upright freezer (FR-PF11NBBS) and refrigerator (FR-PR13NBBS) pairing offers maximum internal visibility and seamless reach. Equipped with dynamic condenser, keeping the outer sides cool to the touch—allowing for a gapless, flush integration straight into your kitchen cabinetry.

Frigidaire’s Metal-Tech Cooling technology is primarily comprised of a stainless steel back panel that ensures even cooling throughout the unit, maintaining consistent temperatures while reducing cool air loss and preventing frost buildup.

Compact yet powerful: Frigidaire PureFit with Metal-Tech Cooling 11 cu. ft. built-in upright freezer (model: FR-PF11NBBS) and 13 cu. ft. upright refrigerator (model: FR-PR13NBBS) combined seamlessly with PerfectMatch design technology.

Frigidaire’s wide voltage range (160V to 260V) also offers versatility and enhanced safety to handle voltage fluctuations, ensuring stable and reliable performance even during power inconsistencies—perfect for everyday use in varying electrical conditions.

Most importantly, Frigidaire’s i5 Inverter Technology saves up to 60 percent more energy compared to non-inverter units, while delivering more stable and efficient cooling performance—a definite advantage especially for cost-conscious and environmentally smart consumers.

“We are excited for Filipino homeowners to rediscover the same quality and excellence they have come to know of Frigidaire, with modern features and benefits for contemporary living,” says Franklin Chan of CYA Industries, the new official licensee of Frigidaire in the Philippines. The new Frigidaire refrigeration lineup was officially introduced to dealers, business partners, members of the media, and industry stakeholders during the brand's relaunch held on April 22, 2026, at the Monet 1 & 2 Ballroom of Novotel Araneta City.

A century and a decade since the first self-contained refrigerator was introduced by Guardian Frigidaire, the brand truly lives up to its iconic status by continuously pioneering innovation worldwide, and now, bringing it to Filipino homes once again.

“HEART OF THE BEAST” is like an impressionist dream that gradually transforms into an expressionist nightmare,” say filmmakers about the survival adventure thriller, now showing in cinemas nationwide

In the emotional survival thriller Heart of the Beast, retired Special Forces soldier James Belmont (played by Brad Pitt) and his combat dog Odin (played by real German Shepherd Uber) fly to the Alaskan wilderness for some peace and quiet. But things take a turn when their plane crashes. “The environment becomes the antagonist,” says director David Ayer. “It’s still stunning, but now the glaciers and the ice fields and the trees make it difficult to navigate. But James is an experienced Special Forces operator, so he knows how to move through rough terrain with only a map, a compass and a pencil to guide him.”

Filmed on location and in studio in New Zealand, Heart of the Beast brings an otherworldly feeling to the country’s soaring mountains and deep valleys. Ayer and his Academy® Award-winning director of photography Mauro Fiore have imbued the landscapes with a sense of beauty, mystery and a whiff of magical realism. “Mauro has old-school craftsmanship, artistry and a creative soul,” says Ayer. “His work here is all the more impressive because conditions were physically arduous. We were wet, cold, tired and miserable most of the time. There was something about being embedded in that way that comes across in the photography and brings truth to it.”

Fiore and Ayer discussed finding ways to create visuals that would be poetic and lyrical, says the cinematographer. “We spoke a bit about the beginning of the film being like an impressionist dream that gradually transforms into an expressionist nightmare,” explains Fiore. “By the end of the film, they are in purgatory. David wants the audience to be unsure of how much of what they’re watching is James’ subjective perception, almost dream imagery, and how much is reality.”

Looking back at a career packed with challenging projects, Ayer figures that Heart of the Beast may be the most difficult film he has made to date. “I’ve done a lot of action movies with big casts and witty dialogue, but I’ve never felt more exposed as a director,” he admits. “It’s just Brad Pitt and four incredibly talented dogs. The focus and intensity were unparalleled. Every camera choice, every shot, the flow, the visuals, it was all critical.”

The characters, he says, will remain with audiences for a long time, pointing to a line early in the film in which the character Watkins (played by J. K. Simmons) refers to the region as “the heart of the beast.” “And that’s part of where the title comes from,” the director says. “But it also refers to Odin. He has an incredibly powerful heart. And so does James. For 30 years, all he’s known is war. War isn’t always military action. Everybody in their own life has their own struggles. So it’s about Odin’s heart and James’ heart and the beating heart of the environment they’re trying to survive in.”

Ayer thinks the film will surprise people and hopes that it will inspire them to keep going, no matter the hardships, as Belmont and Odin do. “It’s about always being able to take one more step and never feeling sorry for yourself,” says Ayer. “There’s something aspirational in that. It’ll take audiences to a place they’ve only  imagined and make them feel things they haven’t felt before. It hits hard. It shakes you up emotionally and within that emotional journey there’s action, there’s adventure, and there’s fun. At a certain point it grabs you and the next thing you know, it’s over and the credits are rolling, and you have tears in your eyes.”

Critics have responded well to the film, which currently has an 89% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. “As pretty as the natural landscape is to watch, it is still the gut-wrenching emotional reach of this simple story of humanity at its finest, loyalty and friendship at its most meaningful, and above all the heart of a ‘beast’ and the man standing at his side. There will not be a dry eye in the house. If this one doesn’t move you, there is no hope,” wrote Deadline Hollywood in their review.

HEART OF THE BEAST review - A Love Story Between A Man And His Best friend

By: Edgar Allan E. Yu

#HeartOfTheBeast delivers a wilderness survival story that’s as gut-wrenching as it is physically punishing. Brad Pitt stars as a battered former Special Forces soldier stranded deep in the unforgiving jungle after a plane crash, with only his retired combat dog, Odin, by his side. Director David Ayer strips away all movie-star glamour, immersing viewers in a raw, brutal fight against freezing elements, rugged terrain, and the heavy weight of shared trauma.

The film showcases an incredible chemistry between Pitt and his canine co-star, made even more compelling by the fact that both actors performed their own stunts, lending a terrifying realism to every sequence. Audiences can truly feel the exhaustion, the biting cold, and the bone-crunching impact of every fall as they struggle through the wilderness.

Pitt delivers one of his most understated performances in years, conveying deep emotion through desperate eyes and quiet moments rather than grand speeches. Meanwhile, the German shepherd, Uber, comes across as both adorable and intelligent, highlighting the film’s core theme—a heartfelt love story between a man and his best friend. Dog owners will surely love this!
