SUPERMAN Review --- James Gunn breathes new life into the superhero genre

By : Edgar Allan E. Yu

In a cinematic landscape often dominated by crazy narratives, the new SUPERMAN movie stands out as a vibrant beacon of hope. We finally have a SUPERMAN that's colorful and optimistic, embodying the very essence of what this iconic character represents - a symbol of Hope. David Corenswet shines in his dual role as Kal-El and Clark Kent, bringing depth and charisma that resonate with both longtime fans and newcomers alike.

Rachel Brosnahan is nothing short of perfect as Lois Lane; she captures the essence of an investigative, no-nonsense reporter with remarkable finesse. Her chemistry with Corenswet elevates their scenes together, making us believe in their partnership wholeheartedly. On the other hand, Nicholas Hoult excels as Lex Luthor, delivering a portrayal that is pure evil yet compelling.

Among the ensemble cast, Nathan Fillion's Guy Gardner adds a delightful mix of humor and power to the film. Isabela Merced portrays a young Hawkgirl who is still discovering her potential—an exciting glimpse into her future growth within this universe. But perhaps the real stand-out character is Edi Gathegi's Mr. Terrific; his powers are showcased in ways we've never seen before, even surpassing what we witnessed in animated series—he truly is Terrific !

And let's not forget Krypto—the canine companion who steals every scene he's in, he graces with his playful charm and strength. This dog is not just adorable; he's also a formidable force on screen.

Director James Gunn has masterfully woven together numerous characters and sub-plots into this film without losing coherence or charm. The comic-book accuracy that fans cherish shines through brilliantly, making it an exhilarating introduction to the DC Universe (DCU). With such a strong start, I am genuinely excited to see what lies ahead for our beloved heroes !
